Week 1 is in the book...we had our positives and negatives, now it’s on to Week 2 with hopes we improve in all aspects of our game.

Our opponent this week is the Western Carolina Catamounts with the game to be played at 1:30 PM EST at Lane Stadium. For those who cannot make the trip, the game will be aired on ESPN 3 (Those of us in the DC Area will hope that Comcast picks up the broadcast).

Last week Western Carolina lost to Mid Tennessee 45-24 with MT putting up 21 points on them in the first quarter. With the score being 31-3 at one point in the second quarter. It appears the WC was able to execute a few long pass plays for TDs, and their defense might have tendencies to give up big plays.

Aspects of our game we need to improve this week:

- Special Teams - Certain starters have asked to play on ST's moving forward.
- Receivers - I like this group of kids, and I feel they will continue to grow as a unit...we were blessed a few years back with some great experienced receivers now we need the younger guys to step up and continue the tradition.
- O-line: Continue to grow as a unit and control the line of scrimmage.
- QB: Work with the receivers and you will improve as well...let’s get out and run a little bit more too.
- RB: Continue to improve and hope JC comes back this week.

- Defense: Continue to grow as a unit and control the line of scrimmage.

Let’s Go Hokies!

I want to see 300 yds passing from LT this week. I don't care if we are up 30-0...get these WR some catches. No better way to build their confidence than catches during live game action. Limit Edmunds carries to 10...no reason to get him banged up against WCU. And when (if) Leal comes in let the guy throw the damn ball!

Agree. I would like to see at least 25 passes this week. Hopefully Meyer will be back. Maybe he can be the guy? Anything less than a 30 point victory will be unacceptable.

I would like to see a hybrid form of the Wild Turkey with Logan, Trey and JC when he's back. A nice zone option play.

Let's get some nice home cooking at Lane Stadium and feed our receivers. I remember a few weeks ago Moorehead got upset with the receivers about inconsistencies...improvement is the key.

VT -42 has sucker bet potential. I know its WCU, but we all know Beamer refuses to blow teams out. If its 35-6 at halftime, he'd call off the dogs and the game will end 42-17.

Western Carolina is favored by 42 points over VT ey?

Yeah, didn't you hear?WCU is NC material....

Fat fingered the - key.

It very well could be a sucker bet, but I think VT covers with Caleb and Mangus running all over them in the 2nd half. Just a hunch.

With JC and Caleb being back in the mix, Mangus will probably be moving back over to WR. I hope we play Trey as a feature back and bring the other guys in for multi back sets. Either way we don't need to be playing a 4th RB. I still say a 3rd RB is a stretch to get carries.

There's more in every year between 2005 and now, but I don't feel like typing them all out (with the exception of last year, but I don't think we could have blown anyone out last year)

Hell, just 2 seasons ago we beat App St 66-13

Oh I agree..but I guess where I was getting at is ....Where will Mangus help us the most (the bigger need is certainly at WR) and the bigger ?? is CAN he play WR?? I may be wrong, but I thought Mangus was a RB out of HS?? If he can..then great, throw him the rock. If not..then keep him at RB, move him to D, give him a role...something. This moving players all over the place until they settle into a position their junior year is bullshit. It is not good for the team, it is not good for the guys that are doing it...and it isn't good for trying to recruit these kids out of HS.

He was a RB but they moved him to WR in the fall but due to all the injuries they moved him to RB for the Bama game because we only had 1 RB in Edmunds. With JC and Caleb back, I'm pretty sure he will go back to working with the WRs. I could see him being a great slot guy. Mismatch on LBs and get the ball in a little bit of space and make a play.

When Spurrier was at Florida, they would recruit RBs to play WR. In their system, they would get the ball to these guys quickly and let them make the first guy miss for big plays. If Mangus can catch he has the potential to be that kind of guy.

i saw vt's offensive line play as well against alabama as i saw them play against peay last season. this team, especially the oline and defensive line, seems to have a nasty ass mean streak. i think the game is VERY over by halftime (to the tune of 4+ touchdowns) and i think we make an example of them. we don't have candy-ass offensive coaches any more and we should want to flat out embarrass this team. our second teamers come in, take some lumps, but still dominate in the second half. i've never been a big fan of betting on vt to cover ... but his year i think they cover more than not. if i was a betting man -- i'd bet VT -42 on this one.

Poor choice of words. What I meant was Beamer typically won't run up the score. If he feels the game is comfortably in hand, the play calling will get super conservative and/or the starters get pulled.

I was at the game last week, and about the only player on their team that I was impressed with, was their #14 receiver, Benson. MT was very successful rushing the ball - scored a 66yd rushing TD on first play of game - so VT should have their way pounding the rock.

Should be a nice, easy, bounce-back win for the Hokies. I'll say something like VT 58-6 (could easily be worse, but I'm guessing 2nd string will be in for the majority of the 2nd half).

Anyone going to have a mirror? Does Phreak still do that? I'm in Jakarta and I was hoping to watch this one... but Disney hates the rest of the world, so it's rights restricted and all that nonsense.
