oh wow... that was a huge hole up the middle.

Yep. I guess Foster is going to spend about 2 hours of non stop cursing and reaming during the defensive meeting on that. So long shutout

That fat fuck Trevor Matich was on CollegeFootballLive today discussing all the cupcakes teams are scheduling. Said FSU would beat Savannah St by 80, but that VT would only beat Austin Peay by 25 pts. Really?!?!

Matich is smarter than all of us.

:burt:

Getting some nice work in on various run packages now. There's a +

EDIT: Which leads to a nice TD pass to Dunn

That's the way this offense is supposed to look against this team

Nicolas is playing with good energy and being quite disruptive. I like it.

Some thoughts on the game in no particular order...

1st stringers:
  • Bonner looked pretty good in run support. Also bailed out Exum, who had slipped, with a great hit to break up a completion
  • Good punting by Hughes, didn't seem to have any trouble with snaps
  • Jarrett also looked good in run support following a great effort vs GT
  • DEs got very little pressure. This is now a trend after a similar performance vs GT
  • DTs looked good, Harley got some early playing time
  • Matt Arkema played a bit early, got caught holding once
  • Guard play disappointing once again, not much push
  • Coleman had a good catch and run from the flanker position
  • Tackling was not as good this game
  • Randall Dunn did some work, one catch without a shoe
  • Thomas had a beautiful throw to Fuller at the end of the 2nd quarter
  • Otherwise Thomas was hit or miss, several throws high again. Showed some good pocket presence though.
  • I'm going to go ahead and say it. I strongly dislike Exum. Slips in coverage, misses tackles, holds receivers, has dumb hair. If you're going to have hair like that you have to earn it imo.
  • Gregory blocked a punt, but nobody was home to recover it.

Backups:
  • Stanford, Nicholas, VanDyke, Frye, Manning, Riley, Clarke, Gregory all got playing time. I didn't pay much attention to the offensive linemen.
  • Nicholas plays REALLY fast. Nice to see that translate directly from his HS tape. He's still small however.
  • Noticed Manning on 2 plays. Got beat on one for a good gain. Picked off an overthrown pass down the sideline.

Overall I'm pretty disappointed with the way we played. If the offense doesn't take a huge step forward, especially with the interior running, we are looking at some losses.

Here's what I'd like to see for our defense:

  • Exum challenged on routes more complex than a fly - not impressed
  • Bonner around the ball. Didn't get much action vs GT (by design I think)- thought he looked good
  • G-W at backer. We need a contingency plan in case Edwards isn't ready by the UNCheat game. Taylor and Tyler are liabilities against the pass, and Bruce didn't look comfortable at backer. - Didn't happen
  • To go along with the above, VanDyke at whip. He needs some snaps, especially if the coaches don't trust Tweedy. If Edwards isn't ready by UNCheat I think VanDyke, Taylor, G-W is our best option. -would have liked for him to see more time
  • Significant playing time for some guys who are needed to provide depth. Harley, McCray, Aromire, Chase Williams, Manning, and Riley. - 1+ quarters for most of these guys. Williams started
