the more i think about it the more this game reminds me of going into our season in 2004 vs #1 USC. Coming off a shitty season having to face the #1 team in the land that later went on to win the National title (having cheated but still).

I dont remember the spread but i do know we were heavy underdogs. Really the only difference was it was at Fedex Field (basically a home game for us). The quarterback scenario was the same having a senior qb lead us into battle.

We could have won that game if it wasnt for that god damn pass interference that never happened!

Totally agree. This game definitely has the 2004 USC vibe to it and just like the 2004 Hokie team, there are alot of unknowns here. But I can tell you we are hungry and we will be playing with a chip on our shoulder...

This Bama team is way better than that USC team though. USC had some star power for sure, but Bama has talent, depth, and the best coach the sport has ever seen. Carroll wasn't a great coach. Great recruiter and pretty good coach. Bama is always prepared. And doesn't have to travel across the country

I dont know about WAY better. However my comparison was not on our opponent rather then the situational comparison of the two Virginia Tech teams. We were coming off a let down of a season, against an opponent who should destroy us, to open the season, with alot of question marks, and have a senior qb to lead us; similar to 2004

We are due, hopefully for a surprise.

Yeahh about that. Believe it or not, for our big games, our game plans have been what they needed to be. Against Bama, we played them tough but they were simply a more overpowering team with more talent. Against Boise, the players just didn't execute early on, made some mistakes and then we still should have beaten them. We absolutely shut down Michigan, we couldnt score in the red zone which is on stiney and then we still won the game, the refs decided to give it to michigan.
