LOL, during the early 2000s housing boom, developers started referring to Tracy as " inland Bay Area " in their promotional materials. It actually gets quite ridiculous.

Yeah, it's probably mostly out of laziness. Instead of having to explain where Los Gatos is, it's easier to just say "Bay Area" and be done with it.

Gilroy is the cut-off for Santa Clara County, it's a rule they have to claim Bay Area. That fuzzy area from Salinas to San Luis is Central, I think. Then you start creeping into the real shitty "SoCal" region.

Santa Clara isn't part of the San Fran metropolitian area. It is part of the San Jose metropolitan area.

ok...I'm not that tied into what makes up the metro area, but in terms of TV markets...they incl San Jose with SF.

I'm mostly not being serious here. My initial point is that having the Niners play in Santa Clara while still calling them the San Francisco 49ers is pushing the limits of a team playing for one city over another.

But I would say that calling them the San Francisco 49ers while they are playing in Santa Clara is really pushing the boundaries of common sense.

They don't need to call them the Santa Clara 49ers. But how bout a little respect for the larger than San Francisco city that is 10 minutes away?
