I am starting to wonder if the NFL success of VT linebackers is starting to hurt them when recruiting these guys. Even the great ones in the last 10-15 years haven't been largely successful in the league. Is it because there are alot of tweeners..they are undersized...too slow???

We've had some greats like Hall and Taylor that were great college players but just didn't have the necessary size and athleticism to make it in the NFL, so it's no knock on VT that they didn't turn into NFL stars. Adibi and Anderson are the only ones that come to mind who had significant NFL potential coming in as recruits. Both of them made it. Anderson is doing very well for himself. Adibi not so much, but there have been some injuries there, and he's still managed to stick around a while. That happens.

We got three very good linebackers in 2012, but one turned into a running back. I still have high hopes for Clarke and Vandyke.

Technically Worilds and Tapp are now linebackers. Ben Taylor was a 4th round draft pick and lasted 5 seasons in the NFL. Nick Sorenson played some LB at VT and had a lengthy NFL career although mostly on special teams. Seems like VT has had a lot of undersized LB's over the years which has hurt those individual's draft stock.

Wow, Taylor did better than I remembered in the NFL, especially 2005. 26 starts isn't half bad. He was one of my favorites at VT, so good for him.

Sorensen had a nice long NFL career (though he never became a starter), but all in the secondary as I recall. Like with Tapp and Worilds moving from college DL to NFL LB... Anytime you have to change positions that's tough. It's tough enough to crack into the NFL as it is, so kids with NFL aspirations aren't prone to choosing a college that is going to slot them somewhere different than where they'd play in the pros. We haven't had a lot of LBs with the size and athleticism to play the same position in the NFL, so there's not a large sample to look at. Hopefully that is changing.
