Now that the government has given up trying to pin the rap on him when the appeals court overturned the only 2011 conviction of 'Obstruction of Justice" on Bonds, it is time I believe for the BWAA to come off their high horses and vote Barry Bonds into the HOF. I agree with this article tat appeared in New York Times on the same topic.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/26/s...ntentCollection=Home Page&pgtype=article&_r=0

"Finally free of legal entanglement, Bonds could, or should, become the example by which baseball can bring greater clarity to its moral ambiguity and ever-shifting standards that are now being applied to the multitude of high-end achievers from a tarnished era."

"Bonds’s case, he added, “is even more complicated because of the records he shattered, the curmudgeonly personality he is.”

Mosher added, “He’s in limbo — and probably will be after our lifetime, and his.”

"That would be a shame for baseball as much as it would for Bonds because the sport needs less rigid thinking and more enlightened contemplation as it grapples with a problem that isn’t going away and is only likely to create more confusion, along with new culprits."

Even Bob Costas has changed his mind and would vote Bonds into HOF because according to him he was a HOF before even being accused of using performance enhancement drugs.

We should be celebrating the likes of Pedro, Randy, Smoltz, and Biggio today. Yet we are making threads for Barry Bonds.

Was Biggio clean?

There needs to be a separate area for the PED years.

Best player I've ever seen.

Prolly won't ever see him in the Hall though. Which is silly, but it doesn't change the fact he's the best player I've ever seen.

They should take Jim Rice out and put Barry in. But not until Alan Trammell is in.

Put him in the same class with Rose and McGwire. Not saying no to the thought, but fair is fair. And Icon, giving you a "thumbs up" just for finding a sports related board!

I doubt it.

But Hank Aaron wasn't clean either. But he wasn't a dickhead to the media all the time.
He was just as dirty as the PEDs players were, using the drugs of the day that were available to him. But he has been SOOO sanctimonious about attacking Bonds, it really makes him look worse, IMHO.

It has been said before, but it can't be said enough...

BARRY BONDS NEVER BROKE A BASEBALL RULE!!

Not one. Let's assume he did juice like a new-wave California vegetarian. PEDs were not illegal in Baseball when he was assumed to have used them.

McGwire, yes (assuming you believe McGwire is a HOFer).

But lumping him in with Rose is a joke. Rose broke THE rule. Bonds didn't break any rules.

giants' fans look at barry the same way Reds' fans look at Pete...both sides are delusional

I have a co-worker with a bumper sticker on his wall that says "The only place Bonds picture belongs in is the CVS Chain Wall of Shame"

What rule did Bonds breaks that should keep him out of the Hall?

I am still waiting for someone to answer that simple question.

Steroids have been banned in MLB since 1991....it was a shoddy rule though, since there was no testing or penalties...

Not true.

That was just a memo by the commish. It never went through the Players Union. Decrees don't count.

And, as you said, there was no teeth. No testing of any kind.

I'm not sure if the MLB needs MLBPA's consent/approval for something like this. I don't think there was any approval from the MLBPA when players in the '80s were getting suspended for coke (the MLBPA could appeal each case, but I don't think there needed to be any formal agreement for MLB to start suspending players).

If I recall correctly, the what the MLBPA agreed to a few years ago was the drug testing to players, not that steroids were to be banned.
