Palmeiro's a rich man's McGriff IMO. Palmeiro was a productive player for almost two decades, but he still only had a handful of seasons where you could really call him one of the best players in the AL. Only 5 top ten WAR finishes, only one seasons where he was top five (4th in 1993). Six seasons where he was top 10 in OPS+ and only finished in the top 5 twice (5th in 1991, 2nd in 1999). Just don't think there's a strong enough peak, but I guess you could make a case for him given his longevity. Meh.

Just to be clear, I would have Palmeiro as borderline and don't think I would vote for him. My point was that it shouldn't be surprising that he would make a roster of best non-HOF players in my book because 1st base is well represented, and he's in that 15-20 range.

Yeah, I thought this was the HOF voting thread when I posted that. He's definitely one of the best non-HOF players though and seems like a good candidate for a non-HOF 1B.
