There is nothing but opinion in that article. There is no indication from the Lions or CJ that he is going anywhere.

and poster's complain about Bleacher Report blogger's. I wouldn't take this too seriously at this juncture. Hell, if they wanted to, they could easily make CJ a post June 1st 2015 cut and split that into two (2015 dead money $ 20,974,000.00). I don't see it happening.

This is what needs to happen.

I think the world of CJ and the attitude he brings to the game. But if you want to build a winner, you can't be paying a fricking WR, QB money.

If Johnson won't take a pay cut then the Lions shouldn't retain his services as his contract balloons to QB money.

The idea was Florio's and we all know Mike has a hard on for anything Lions. Actually might be one the better things he has said. Sad part is of the huge money contracts the two I like will be gone before the one I am not that high on.

Then to go further, I have seen how Matt plays without CJ. Holy wow this is a scary thought to process

I agree with that. Hopefully CJ is willing to sign a new deal and stay. Stafford better get things figured out in a hurry and start preparing for life without him. If he doesn't, he'll be 3rd big contract out the door.

I guess at that point, you'd find out exactly what type of QB you truly have in Stafford, meaning CJ being gone. It's too easy for Matty to zone in on CJ all these years, especially while in double and sometimes triple coverage.

I'd have no problem with this plan after the 2015 regular season. CJ's cap hits are 20.558 in 2015 with dead $ being 20.916 for same year. Cap Hit of 24.008 in 2016 with dead $ being 12.916. Any cuts post June 1st you could split into two years, if I remember correctly from Dr. Evil's previous posts.

OR you try to trade him after the end of this year. Maybe a new structured deal for the trade partner :noidea:.. Get some picks.. It sure as hell won't be anything outrageous as far as receiving a bunch of high picks back like many would want.

Just keep in mind that next years cap is occupied by 36 players at almost 119 mil. 6 mil has to go to rookies. Maybe cap space increases to 145 mil total. 17 players and 26 mil to work with.

Dammit. I knew you weren't going to let me get away with that.

I would pay him as little as possible, but would go up to $18m a year. Here's why.
(1) I believe he is the most dominant DT ever. Stats be damned.
(2) Five years from now, that will seem like a bargain. As the cap goes up, so does the pay scale.
(3) He stays on the field.
(4) If he leaves, I'll probably let my female side out, and have a 2nd favorite team, while the Lions defense reverts to 2008 status.

Meh. Suh was on this defense the last few years and they sucked. Austins scheme is what improved them, not Suh all of a sudden playing better. Would like to keep him, but I would not want to break the bank. Same goes for Stafford. I will give him more time to learn this system, but he needs to show he can make good decisions for the kind of cash he is making. CJ is the only one I would go overboard for and only for 1 more contract and no more than 5 years.

Would you rather pay CJ QB money or Matt Stafford QB money? Who is more deserving?
