I'd watch if:

(1) Adopt the NFL rules from the '60s before the greedy NFL owners turned it into a flag football league.
(2) Allow their players to smoke pot.
(3) Don't allow protests on company time.
(4) Don't fix games to get the most popular matchup in the championship.
(5) Don't have more commercial time than game time.

If they're gonna survive this time, they really do need to move past that stuff. I remember when McMahon first announced the XFL and said something about people want their football after football season, then proceeded to televise some silly school yard bullshit that only pro wrestling fans MIGHT be into.

If you think there's a market for an off-season football league, go after that market, don't try to be cute and incorporate staged wrestling style gimmicks.

It's really an uphill battle even if done right, there's only so much talent, so there's no way to get around that they will at least indirectly be competing with other, well established leagues. I think the best way to go about it would be to be the normal American football alternative to the CFL. The CFL has its own goofy rules that work because Canada, try to offer something for guys who miss the draft and don't get picked up, or bounce around the league before they finally get cut, that isn't the CFL.
