On draft day 2013: Michigan Today » Behind the scenes with Trey Burke at the 2013 NBA draft
I don't think you're comparing to Oladipo (especially what Oladipo might do next year) enough.
Also, to other rookie PGs, because who cares how he compares to most players who won't make it in the league, it's the ones that were good rookies in the past, that makes it more meaningful comparisons. The ones that made an impact in their careers, and were solid rotation players.
Since you asked for stats regarding Hayward, here are some:
1. He had an 8 game span where he shot over 50%.
2. He had a 10 game span where he shot over 50% from the three point line.
3. He had a 15 game span where he shot over 40% from the three point line.
4. He had a 10 game span where he shot over 90% from the free throw line.
5. He has gone 41+ games with over 85% from the FT and 35% from 3-PT line. Not necessarily the same span. (I only did my spreadsheet to half a season, so I don't know actual numbers.)
6. He had a 26 game span averaging 6 rebounds or more. 41+ over 5.6.
7. He had a 26 game span averaging 6 assists or more. 41+ over 5.7.
8. He had a 9 game span averaging 2 steals or more. 41+ over 1.7.
9. He had a 4 game span averaging 2 blocks or more. 41+ over 0.75.
10. He had a 10 game span averaging 20 points or more. 41+ over 17.
More details later, but I have to go now.
? I just compared him to a former Jazz man in a similar system and in the same year f their career. I imagine that Deron is good enough to compare to and yes, Burke will be here awhile.
I'm confused to what you are referring to. Which post?
Thanks.
26 games in a row with 6+ assists, nice.
Blocks was interesting too.
Just to clarify, he averaged over six assists for that 26 games. He didn't get 6 assists in each game. Burke averaged over six assists for a 38 game span. But he was the point guard and Hayward was not. There was a higher rate for Hayward as far as when he was playing the point, I presume. I have no stats on that, just an assumption. It's a possibility that a lot of the assists were swing passes, which are not really a point guard thing, per se. Just a basketball player thing.
I don't think Hayward actually played the point, but that he would do something when Burke couldn't, on a possession. Burke would get the first chance.
As of right now, I think Hayward is a better PG, and I want Hayward shooting less anyways.
I also think Tinlsey, over the last few years, was better at assists per minute then Burke, this year. Stats show this to be true. Playing in the same system, with the same players.
As I've mentioned recently, it's about drives and screens, and Tinsley right now is better at all of that, than Burke is, right now.
Even in the games where Burke would get more assists, I usually didn't see anything special about them, like I saw with Tinsley.
So I don't think Burke has a commanding floor presence yet.
