Injuries are always a big concern for any team but Oklahoma is particularly concerned about them this year. The first teams (O&D) have good to very good talent levels, however, everything drops off dramatically when you look at the second teams. Gone are the days when OU had talented reserves across the board who were able to fill in and the team did not suffer a dramatic drop off. Trevor Knight was brittle last year with multiple injuries and OU does not have a proven second team QB right now who can step in and fill Knight's shoes if he's hurt again. Blake Bell is at tight end and there is no desire to bring him back to QB....even if Knight goes down early. With Knight and everyone else mostly healthy they deserve to be considered as a legitimate threat to win the NC but with a couple of key injuries, OU could lose 3-4 games. Our second stringers are just not very good.

wow really?

it's only Sporting News. A cool honor. But it isn't Phil Steele or the real polls.

Oky could be very good. I am sure Sports Illustrated will have another suprise #1

Don't bet on it, remember the Rhett Bomar fiasco put Paul Thompson back in as QB after he changed positions in the off season.

There's a big difference between becoming the starting QB just before the season and maybe 3-4 games into the schedule. Huge difference in practice time playing the position in drills, etc. Maybe the best QB on campus can't even play this year....he needs to sit out this season since he's ineligible until 2015: Baker Mayfield. Either Cody Thomas or Justice Hansen would get the nod 3-4 games into the season. I'm just glad Kendal Thompson transferred so we don't have to sweat that train wreck playing under center again.

You know there is something seriously wrong with this ranking when there's not 8 teams ranked in the 10 from the SEC, I'm not buying any of this bullshit

Winston suspended from baseball, so I am not sure how you rank them right now.

Only until he meets the obligations of the citation which must be met within the next 7 days. Not really difficult ones either. $30 fine, $32.72 restitution, and like 8 hrs of community service.

I'm fine with it. It's as good a pick for #1 as any others. Rarely does the preseason #1 finish #1.

FSU should remain #1, assuming Winston keeps his head on straight. Other than that, I'm ok with the list, except I think Baylor is too high.

SI will never live down their infamous 2001 prediction. :L

CNNSI.com - SI Online - This Week's Issue of Sports Illustrated - SI College Football Preview 2001 - Tuesday August 07, 2001 04:34 PM

The Beavers went on to lose their first game of the season by 20 points at Fresno State with future 1st round draft pick David Carr (which turned out to be a decent team that year).

When all was said and done, the Beavers finished 5-6 and not even bowl eligible.

Loved that year minus the fuck job that the BCS gave to Oregon

To piggyback on that comment, FSU was the first to do it in the BCS era in 1999-00.

Almost as good as when espn was knob slobbering USC a couple years ago.

True, didn't they have them #2 Pre-season in 2012? Maybe 3, I'm not 100% sure, but it was beyond stupid. Ended up getting spanked by Georgia Tech in a more than meaningless Sun Bowl.
