if you think baseball is losing kids to lacrosse you're nuts. I gotta believe you either play lacrosse or you have a kid who plays. Nothing against lacrosse or soccer becuz the non athletes need a place to go.

Might be different in different regions of the country, but Lacrosse is huge out here in the NW now. (has steadily grown in the last 6-8 years) I don't play lacrosse, in fact, never really even watched a game. But I do know several little leagues in my area have shut down and lax numbers are growing, especially in high school. Now, other reasons in my area that LAX is growing and baseball is dying might have something to do with the weather.

Lacrosse kids are rewarded with games every day of the week, because games are not cancelled. Baseball on the other hand, kids are practicing probably more than they play games because games are constantly cancelled due to rain. So kids, who are growing up in a society with instant gratitude and payoff aren't getting games in and seem to just be practicing all the time.

You take a slower than other sports + hardly playing any games = no interest.

They end up making up all their games at once in middle to late May when the weather starts to clear. But these kids are practicing majority of the time for 2 months.

Can't have a pitch clock if you don't have one for the batter's. This constant adjusting is disturbing.

Baseball is dying because the values in our culture has dramatically changed. I don't want to get into a deep-rooted, psychological conversation but our culture has an infatuation with violence. It may be subconscious but more and more people would rather watch a contest that is essentially organized violence...as opposed to one that is all about coordination, patience, and organization.

Today's generation simply can't relate to baseball and there's sadly not many new Dad's out there with a baseball glove, teaching little Billy how to throw a ball. It's grab a beer and tell Billy the NFL is the television.
100% agree.

Patience is a lost art.

What a bunch of tripe spewed by someone obviously bitter about the NFL taking over as "America's past time." Baseball is boring and too long of a season (i.e. too many games) for the the masses. Slow, paint dryingly boring for our fast food society. We want instant gratification and the chess match that is baseball just doesn't cut it. Especially as offense continues to downslide. It has nothing to do with culture or violence...it's a way too long season that now stretches into November for cripes sake with too many teams that have watered down the sport. That and all the "specialists" they have for teams is making it laughable that they can even call these guys athletes.
