Efforts to speed up game action are very welcome (IMO). MLB will begin using pitch clocks in the majors this season.

I suspect pitchers will be surprised how this will help their stats. Less time for batters to figure out what is coming... less time for teams to steal signs (if teams use signs)...

I'm also a firm believer in muscle memory

Super excited for this seeing the results at the MiLB level. 30 minutes off the average game is awesome. Best change in years.

MLB instituted this a few years back, and umpires basically ignored it. I don’t get why they think it will be different this time.

Hopefully the NFL will try to speed up their games, too...

Average game time:
NHL - 2:20
NBA - 2:30
MLB - 3:03
NFL - 3:12

And the NFL is the most boring of all in terms of actual game play. I forget the number but actual game play from QB under center to whistle for the entire game is about 15 minutes. The rest is huddles and commercials and reviewing official calls and time outs.

They had a discussion about this on MLB Network the other day and the consensus appears to favor the pitchers, especially when coupled with the new pitch-calling technology. The hitters have to be in the box with 8 seconds left and they can only call time out once per at bat. The hitters have to re-focus quickly and many won't be able to do so as well as they have in the past.

Maybe that will offset the rules that favor hitters like bigger bases and no shift

I like the pitch clock but would rather not see it on the screen.

I used to appreciate pitchers who worked fast like Mark Buehrle, and never liked all the batting glove adjusting bullshit like Nomar, so I welcome this and I'm eager to see how it looks.

I just hope working quickly doesn’t have a health impact on pitchers.

yeah it seems like the majority of the really good pitchers work fast. The slowest guys are often middle and late inning relievers.

Would have been interesting to see how the Red Sox rotations of Beckett/Lester/Buchholz/Dice-K would do with a pitch clock... lol

They are trying to attract people they won’t be able to attract by marketing the product as something it isn’t.

Like Metallica trying to win over Amy Grant fans by playing Nothing Else Matters acoustically on repeat. NEM is a great song, don’t get me wrong, but it isn’t what makes Metallica great, and it isn’t nearly sweet or heartfelt enough to attract an Amy Grant fan. Don’t try. It won’t work.

I like both Metallica and Amy Grant.
As to baseball, I agree that the game needed to speed up. 4 hour ballgames are a bit boring and we had too many of them in the past couple of years. I like a nice, crisp game that ends in 2 and a half hours or so.
