So far it's all pain

I had to quit watching and just went to the gym instead, probably better for my heart in the long run but now I'm back so it may all be moot!

JD is delusional if he thinks this team doesn't need to be rebuilt.

Maybe its not a total rebuild but 1/3 of the offense and damn near the entire pitching staff needs overhauled

Dave is just now figuring it out.

He's usually "late to understand", is what my Mom would call it.

I just call it "stupid"

You appear to have missed my point. You want the Rangers to use him as a trade piece, then go on to talk about how much he sucks.

If he sucks so much, why would he have any appeal as a trade piece?

I was trying to make the point that he doesn't fit our team as currently constructed. We have a log jam at middle infield, all of our outfielders are defensive liabilities except Gomez, the most likely position he would play at the big league level is DH. we already have a lineup full of guys who swing for the fences and don't take walks. The lineup needs some more versatility and he doesn't provide it.

I read he was going be thrown in with Darvish at one point. Probably so they would at least include Verdugo
Hard to believe nothing serious on him

Never heard the name Reiver Sanmartin. He's a pitcher for Hickory. He's got some good numbers throughout his Minor league career.

If JD looks at this team and honestly believes this is a team who can contend for a pennant in 2018 then he's delusional.

Playing devils advocate. Even if we keep AJ Griffin, and Cashner for next year, that would still leave us a starter short for 18. And if this is the plan, surely you can't think to contend with Hamels, Perez, and the above two.

I don't blame Beltre for not wanting to be a part of a rebuilding plan and despite what JD wants to admit this team needs just that. This coming offseason needs to include some trades that will enable us to restock our upper levels of of farm system. Beltre, Hamels and Choo should be traded and AA or AAA pieces added. Personally, I would not be opposed to Odor being traded and letting Profar start at 2B all year long. My goal for 2019 would be.

C Trade Acquisition
1B Guzman
2B Profar
3B Gallo
SS Elvis
LF Trade Acquisition
RF Mazara
CF Trade Acquisition
DH Calhoun

SP Major Free Agent
SP Major Free Agent
SP Trade Acquisition
SP Minor/Short Term Free Agent
SP Trade Acquisition/Perez/Martinez/ABD/Mendez

In the mean time in 2018 we may need to fill in with one year free agents who can be flipped next July. Drew Robinson and Ryan Rua would see a lot of action next year as well. The position players above along with Robinson, Rua, Chirinos/Nicholas would make up the lineup next year. Maybe throw in an OF signed to a one or two year deal who can be traded if need be.

Beltre, Hamels and Choo should be traded

I think it's time we all try to understand that you can't just easily trade away players on a whim anymore to "restock the system" and shed significant payroll. If there are deals to be made to improve the team, they're on JD's radar. He may pull the trigger, he may not... but the market dictates what JD does, not the other way around.

I think there is almost always a market for good players. The question is what is the market like. There will be teams that desire players like Beltre and Hamels. With Choo you would have to get a little more flexible as to eating part of his contract. Even if we trade Choo we will be paying $10-12 million of his salary every year. I think with JD the most difficult part will be that of accepting that it is time to rebuild more than it is finding trading partners.

Remember: JD has to maintain a certain amount of "public positivity."
That's fine as long as he doesn't compromise the rebuilding process to do so. For example if he hung onto Cashner and Gomez simply to keep up the appearance of contending then he has compromised the process already. If the market for those guys just wasn't there then that is another story, but it is hard to believe someone didn't want Cashner.
