Definitely would like to see Duane Brown extended. And he's not holding out. Would be a great message to ET by the FO to get Brown done before even talking to ET.If anyone gets an extension this year with one year remaining, it needs to be Duane Brown over Earl Thomas... I would even rather give an extension to Frank Clark first over Earl as well... There are other priorities on the team more important than ET, imo... Another reason I am not in favor of giving ET an extension, is RW's contract ends in '19 and we're going to need the cashola... I just don't view ET as the priority... I think the team/fans would end up regretting it...
Or any football player's future for that matter. Your future can change on a dime. Look at Ryan Shazier and Jim Kelly. One is just getting the ability to walk again and the other is a cancer survivor.
Wouldn't be a good idea on his part.. Especially if he's concerned about getting injured, which is one of the main reasons he wants an extension... Usually guys that hold out of training camps and miss regular season games come back and have poor seasons to their standards, while being more vulnerable to injuries...
It's all a gamble. If Brown starts breaking down physically, then we'll all regret extending him.
Agreed... But his position is more valuable than ET so he deserves an extension over ET imo… Frank Clark's position is more important than ET as well... Risking injuries, "breaking down physically" to all three of these guys I put the priority in this order - 1. DB; 2. FC; 3. ET
I'm sure the Seahawks would love to have him resign, but can't risk guaranteeing a large contract when Thomas is 29. They can let him play out his contract, then let him test the market. He may find that the $ he wants isn't out there, or maybe someone antes up IDK.
Last year we drafted 2 Safeties in the 3rd and 4th round... I believe we did so in preparation of this moment... Of course, they're not going to be Earl Thomas but it doesn't mean they aren't bad options behind him... They could turn out to be solid players... And Kam didn't really play much last year either...
but it's interesting to see the fans act like he needs to be kicked to the curb - the sooner the better.
Well players looking for a payday often hurt themselves PR wise with remarks or actions , like Thomas did last season, telling the Cowboys to come after him for example.
It's just hard when a player starts aging and still wants the big dollars. Both players and teams worry about injury. Both sides want protection for injuries.
No easy answer.
Sure they could turn out to be decent players, but they have next to zero experience due to not being good enough to see the field much beyond special teams, with a grand total of 41 defensive snaps between them last year.
Yeah, both Kam and Earl missed time last year - and Bradley McDougal started all 9 games they missed. Maurice Alexander was brought in, and very well could be this seasons McDougal - which would once again push Hill and Thompson back to where they were this past season. We just don't know what we're getting from them - but if Alexander does end up higher on the depth chart then they do - then it's pretty much settled that they'll never start for the Seahawks.
They had Kam, Earl Thomas and McDougald in front of them... How were they supposed to see the field as rookies? IMO, if Carroll didn't feel good about those two, I would think they would've went after another Safety in this years draft, especially with Kam in limbo and ET's contract status...
Not sure that’s news that puts a smile on my face.Ryan Grigson joining Seahawks as front-office consultant
Agent: Ex-Colts GM Grigson joining Seahawks
Guarantees are creeping upwards in the NFL.The NFL is the most protected league in terms of being protected from that.
