That's like most music in general. Longevity is something the music industry sees very little of.

If you put out three albums people love you're essentially a legend of your genre.
A lot of Rock artists back in the 70s and 80s had very long careers. Even a few idie/lo-fi/alternative bands in the 90s and 2000s. Tool for example.

Pac is overrated as hell. Flow is decent, but his lyrics 80% were mediocre. If he didn't have the social commentary and get shot twice, he wouldn't be as big as he is. Can't touch Big
Pac's last 3 albums including Are You Still Down are great. His early stuff was very much "of the time", whereas others who were releasing at that time like BIG and Nas were miles ahead of the era.

He's a poet not a lyricist. If it was all about Lyrics, T.I and Biggie shouldn't be on the list either.
T.I. has some good lyrics, Biggie's lyrics are GOAT. Only Em and Nas have better lyrics I've heard

One of the few artists to release a double album with no lag. That has to count for something.

They had long careers but back a lot of their albums, by and large, were crap.

Hell, Nas put out a lot of shit between Ill and Still that you couldn't pay me to listen to. Albums with one or two good tracks maketh not legendary albums.

I'll also take Too $hort if we're talking WC rappers from that era

I can't take a rapper with Sega Genesis beats seriously. His lyrics were mediocre as well. Has dated horribly.

About to say...I have maybe a dozen bands I like 3 or more albums of to the point to where I would say they are great.

Talking about rap in a baseball thread. Might as well talk about country in an NBA thread and disco-house in an NHL thread.

Actually, he redid one of those albums (I think I Am...) IIRC, and it was actually pretty good

Right? It's a very select club. It's hard as hell for artists to keep up with the times and maintain their appeal.

/I was wondering when someone was gonna squeeze in a hijacked post haha
