Joel Embiid, considered the front-runner to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft, has suffered a right foot injury, his agent and his mentor both confirmed to ESPN.com on Thursday.

"He suffered a foot injury to his right foot, sometime over the last few days,'' agent Arn Tellem told ESPN's Andy Katz by phone Thursday. "He's getting evaluations from various doctors and experts in the field. We'll know more Friday.''

One source told ESPN.com that Embiid "may have broken" his foot, but Tellem wouldn't speculate on the seriousness of the injury until he had heard back from doctors. Tellem also said it was unlikely he would be doing any more workouts before the draft.

Luc Mbah a Moute, Embiid's mentor, also was not certain as to the extent of the injury.

"I just heard he got hurt," said Mbah a Moute, who is overseas.

The poor Cavs. Didn't he just have a great work out for them and they were seriously looking at him for #1?

Yep....reports say Cavs were blown away.

Embiid's workout and interview in Cleveland last week were major successes, according to sources close to the Cavs. Embiid did a full workout there in front of the Cavs' front office and owner Dan Gilbert. Multiple sources said that the team was blown away with the workout. Embiid even ended one session by launching and nailing a series of 3s. Directly after the workout, two different sources told me that Embiid was the strong favorite to be drafted by the Cavs. Even Gilbert was on board.

Well, some guy just said that it's likely that they'd TAKE Wiggins or Parker......I'm thinking this however...if Embiid drops to the Lakers, I don't know if they should take him, but they have to atleast consider it

Embid did it purposefully so the Cavs would pass on him jk. It'll be interesting to see what happens now at the number one pick. Feel bad for him though, as a big man, starting to get foot injuries this early in your career is not a good thing.

He's obviously injury prone. Wouldn't trust him in the grind of an nba season/playoffs

At that point, it would be high risk, high reward. But I agree, if he does fall to the Lakers, you have to certainly consider him. It would certainly progress the rebuilding process.

Embid couldnt handle many minutes in college and missed games what makes anyone think he will be any better in the NBA? Greg Oden Part 2. Cavs are still dumb enough to pick him.

Well Frank Gore suffered 2 major knee injuries in college and has yet to have any knee issues in a near 10 year NFL career. Injuries are a weird thing to predict.

If he slides I doubt he'd make it past the Celtics at 6. At least I'd hope they get him there

He's gonna slide. Recent back injury. Current foot injury. GMs are going to be scared to draft him. They don't want to draft the next Oden and lose their jobs.

What players will do to NOT have to play for the Cavs.

Not good news for him. I don't think he will be the #1 pick now unless Cavs are in love with him. They really cant screw up this pick after who they picked last year.

:L Did Lebron put some kind of voodoo curse on the Cavs when he left?
