That call on Carpenter last night was interesting. I was surprised that NY actually got it right. Carpenters hand just came off the bag for an instant, They must have a new umpire in NY now because, they are actually are looking carefully at the play. Something I am not sure they did in the past.

Reds have done very well lately on replays. I still hate replay but at least they seem to be looking at the play rather than glancing at it while doing something else. Must have been a lot of complaints

I guess I am OK with the outcomes here but the fact remains, umps are just making any call they want now and if nobody challenges, then the call is what it is. Either way, the umps have gotten so sloppy because "New York" makes all the calls for them. I've seen a dozen calls this year that were made by umps who could not possibly have seen the play. They don't care if they are right.

Umpires have been missing calls since the inception of the game. Whether the umpire's are better or worse today.... I can't say.

One thing is for sure.... they were never wrong before slow motion instant replay and television.

Reds more lucky than good on the flopped deals with Bruce.

I can say that the modern umpires are in much better physical condition than the old days for what that's worth.

no johnny boy. the 'thread' isn't asking anything. 'you' are demanding. you ever wondered why this board is down to three or four regular posters? it's not because the reds are losing. i don't think you're particularly slow, so you must realize that a mix of opinions is what makes these forums interesting. do you realize how boring this thread would be if we all approached it from a purely 1960's burnt-out community college professorial journalism 101 aesthetic? who really cares about a lack of stylistic or structural conformity? either just skip my posts or try reading them like bukowski was a closeted baseball fan.

why is this so important to you? and don't tell me it's due to thread selection. that has nothing to do with it. there's less than a handful of us left on this board, which means it doesn't really matter where we post. if there were more contributors it would make some sense to compartmentalize, but not with only 4 1/2 posters. are you trying to make it 3? go back and read the entire 'regular season' thread. several posters ventured off topic.

i have a lot of baseball insight that i would like to share with the board; such as it is. i don't think my arrangement really disturbs anyone but you.

I just find it.curous that people who are too dense to capitalize the first letter of a sentence are criticizing others for having ruined the forum. Reading a 288-word run-on rant without a capital.letter seems the product of an arrogant jerk.

This off the CBS wire. Given how Simon has sucked, one wonders why the Reds dugout staff has been this dense. If they are going to lose, why lose with a guy who has a dead arm?

Reds' Cody Reed: Candidate to join Reds rotation
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Manager Bryan Reed seemed to indicate Reed as an option to join the Reds in the near future, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Reed's numbers haven't suffered much from the promotion to Triple-A in 2016, holding a 24.5 percent K-rate with the Louisville affiliate while owning a 3.31 ERA and 3.14 FIP. Both he and Robert Stephenson are considered candidates for a promotion to the majors, so expect another update when or if he's scheduled to make his big league debut. While Anthony DeSclafani's impending activation could lead to a short stay, the lack of success from some of the team's current starters (namely Alfredo Simon) could keep Reed around if he indeed gets recalled.

I think Simon would do better in the bullpen, god knows he can't do any worse than what they already have.

I hope DeSclafani is better prepared than Moscot was. That was a mess

It's obvious the Reds are trying to get to a certain time frame before pulling the plug on Simon. I think when they make that decision they may release him instead of opting for a bullpen role.

Simon doesn't look healthy. He was plagued with chronic tendonitis in his knee last season and looks to be off balance a lot this year.

Reed has BEEN ready...at least readIER than about 4-5 other hacks they've tried so far, including the $2M Simon, who had a 5 plus ERA LAST year.

More ready than Hayes, Hoover, Cotham, Sampson, Wright, Smith, Melville, Moscot, and a host of others.

Simon and his dead arm are apparently out of the rotation.
Wright will assume that role, much like Adleman did and Melville before him. Before that, I think it was Brandon Claussen.

Daniel Wright could end up with a career ERA of around 18.00.

That's because they want to leave the real prospects down in the minors, and bring up these guys that would never see a major league game without buying a ticket
