I got a chuckle last night when Jim Day talking about Peraza said "His BA is only 2.29, but he gets hits consistently"
I thought last nights game was one, that they should have won. They just didn't seem to play that competitively. But then again coming of they're 3rd 9 or more game road trip in a row. I guess they could have been a little tired.

What bothered me was sitting through 2 hours of painless dentistry watching Lamb try to get a 1-1 count on a hitter and realizing that he probably will never actually accomplish that. Then somewhere around the 6th inning, as per usual, I get handed my daily dose of reality. It's the 2 hours that I don't get back again that pisses me off.

At some point, I have to be wondering if these pitchers are giving up these leadoff homers on purpose. At least Iglesias gave up his on the 2nd pitch.

It's always great to see the Big Red Machine one more time. As we all get older, the privilege won't last much longer.

After the pre-game festivities there wasn't much to cheer about. It was hot and the offense was cold.

It's starting to get embarrassing again. Reds have lost 4 in a row, and 8 out of the last 10 games.

Padres are hot, but they're not this that good. Sorry that was just some sour grapes, that I have been eating this weekend.

It will be interesting to see how the Reds offense does today, against a pitcher with a nine plus earned run average?

Reds' Jose Peraza: Swipes fifth base Sunday

Peraza went 2-for-4 with a run scored and his fifth stolen base of the season in Sunday's win over the Padres.

The 22-year-old is starting to get more comfortable in the majors, picking up at least one hit in seven straight starts while stealing all five of his bags since being called back up on June 14. Peraza's OBP over that period is still only .281, however, so it's tough to say he represents an upgrade over Billy Hamilton in center field at this point in his career.

I'm here just don't have much to say. I read where a Cub fan is comparing the Cub's to the Big Red Machine. Better win something first.
I don't ever think they will be a team like the BRM again. Not because teams don't have the talent. It's because a team would never be able to hold on to that talent for that period of time to be able continually win year after year.
It amazes me that the BRM only won 2 WS, but they were in 4. And IMO, they threw the 72 series away. And in 1974 they won 98 games and didn't even get into the playoffs. Cub's if they would have been under that system wouldn't have been in the playoffs last year

were you at the park for sunday's reds / desclafani win h-n-r? if so, was there anything that stood out in terms of what was keeping batters off balance v. desclafani?

What somebody ought to tell brain-dead Price and his "coaches" is that a guy who already has 12 total bases for the game is either going to sit on his ass the next pitch he sees, or he gets 4 pitches in the dirt. After that, try the same thing with the other guy who owns this staff.
I have never seen a dugout that has absolutely no idea how to prevent wrecking-crew baseball.
Alleging, of course, that the pitchers have the ability to actually brush a hitter back. Oops, that 88 drifted back over the plate, sorry.

I went to the Friday and Saturday games. One of my kids went to the Sunday game. I was preoccupied with my Honey-do list and didn't catch any of Disco's scoreless 8 innings.

Those Sunday 94 degree games are brutal this time of year. The Saturday 4:10 game wasn't much better. I think 94 degrees is hotter than it used to be. Sorta, kinda sounds like something Yogi would say.

To John's point,
The only team the Reds seem to hit is the Pirates. 10 of the 37 HBP have come against them.

Only two against the Cubbies, which suggest they aren't pitching effectively inside. If you're not pitching inside the hitter owns the entire plate and the pitcher.

The previous Reds rotation of Cueto and gang were much more fearless in establishing the inside part of the plate.

I think it's more inexperience than coaching at this point.

Ohlendorf knows to pitch inside. The rest, probably too worried about retaliation or getting tossed. Price is probably trying to quash the Dusty reputation.

Either way, I loved to see Aroldis fling a 102 missile at somebody's Zip code. Part of his success is effectively convincing the umpire that he knows where he is throwing the damned thing. It's time the Reds grew a set and decided to make it harder for the Cubs to walk away with this.
