Hanigan has always hit for average up till this year. This year he's been injured, and it must affect his hitting.
Then again the Reds have a lot of strange injuries these days. 1st its day to day then ends up being half the season. This med staff wants to keep everything a secret.

So back in May, who would have believed the two most reliable pitchers in our bullpen would turn out to be Manny Parra and JJ Hoover?

Catchers have to hit 8th don't they ? At least the SS isn't hitting 2nd...I'm SURE it's coincidence, but that hasn't happened since Willie Cunningham blasted the Reds and Dusty for this, among other mistakes.

To me todays game is pretty much a must win game. The Reds cannot afford to fall back any farther than they already are. I doubt if Pittsburgh is going to lose 2 out of 3 to the Rockies. Now is the time to start showing up at the ballpark and play winning ball. If it's in this team to do so to do so. I don't have a lot of faith in this team right now. So we will see.

The Cards score 4 in the 1st...all on 2 out hits.

I guess that means they suck, since they did it without bunting a guy over right?

Wow, the Card got 4 in the first . How rare is that?

Cozart goes deep on the one pitch he can handle, middle in, belt high. Any pitcher who throws him in that location should be fined, because anywhere else and you own him.

The Cards kill soft tossers.

They killed Arroyo, they killed Locke last week, they killed Leake in the 1st. These types of pitchers play right into their hitting philosophy...foul off foul off foul off...shoot one into the opposite gap

Hard throwers have success against them though. See Latos, Cueto, and Cingrani.

You beat these guys throwing hard and inside.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. The Reds should avoid starting Leake and Arroyo against the Birds if at all possible. Though Bailey has had limited success against them, and he certainly is a power pitcher.

Yeah, Homer is an enigma though.

He can go out and dominate any lineup at any time just as easily as he can give up 5 in 5.

I think it all depends on him, not the lineup he happens to be facing on a given day.

Soft tossers aside, that's the rotation. All the same, you gotta bring your game.

Yeah, Homer has had good games against the Birds, just not as often as he should. The only thing keeping Homer from being at the very top is his head. He's an emotional basket case at times. When he has that under control he can literally he unhittable (or maybe nohittable?).

I'm not happy with that HR.

It came with 2 out and there was no sac bunt involved.

Actually (and maybe not coincidentally) Homer seems to be much more hittable the more he soft tosses.

When he has command of his fastball and is using it a lot? Look out.

I think he's far less of a head case than he used to be, but yeah, it still seems to show up now and again.

Bruce swings at pitches up around his eyes. How long has he been in the league? Jacoby doesn't notice this, apparently.

The window slammed on the Reds fingers here today. Leake should just ask them to turn on the shower for him now.

"Hey Jay! You and Frazier swing at as many shitty pitches as you can. Got it?"

Come on John. I with you as far as wanting a new hitting coach, but what they're swinging at? That's on the player, not the coach.

So that means we keep the hitting coach, get the same results and continue to wonder if we could have done something different. I get it ...
