1-3-1 is a variation of the trap and designed for teams with minimal talent to prevent scoring chances. Maybe 3 years ago it was good, with younger guys learning and coming along. Now, with a veteran roster? Helll no. That is the defensive structure, not a forecheck. The Kings play a 1-2-2 in the offensive zone, also conservative.

They need to move to a 2-1-2, and go away from the 1-3-1 defensively. That is all coaching, if some clown like me can see this no idea why $5 million McLellan cannot.
