Only until Ottawa trades him dash. Then TSN/Sportsnet/CBC will ponder "how Ottawa could let the greatest D man of all time go?!?!?!"

Pretty much the only joy I've gotten from this whole debacle is the about face that Leafs fans (not those on here) and the media (same thing in Canada) have done about Karlsson's abilities. For nearly a decade he's been TERRIBLE defensively and "not the kind of guy you win with". For 3 weeks leading up to the deadline all I heard was that he was now a generational player and how could they ever trade him.

And then since the deadline it's been pretty much:

To be fair to Karlsson, he only looks average when he's faced with the wrath of a god.

Yeah, Karlsson's abilities have been underplayed in the past. Good to see people taking notice of him now and that he's good all-around.

Pushing the halfway mark of the games they'll play for their rental teams I thought I'd check in on how guys who were traded at the deadline were doing.

Paul Stastny, Evander Kane and Pat Maroon have proven to be good purchases. Tomas Tatar and Michael Grabner, not so much.

Tomas Plekanec did something nobody has ever done - he's helped Marc Bergevin to win a trade.

Grabner has essentially been invisible.
Having Maroon makes up for it a little, but it does seem like Grabner was benefiting from something on the Rangers that was giving him the chances he had to score 25-30 goals a year. He certainly didn't have that on the Leafs.

Big win for the Jets last night. Looks like them and the Leafs may be the only Canadian teams to make the playoffs. Wonder if the Flames make it or not.

So Mike Smith lets in a shaky first goal tonight - No problem, but the Flames have a 3-2 lead and then he lets in a another brutal goal that ties the game. GG doesn't call timeout and then shortly thereafter, the Sharks take the lead. That was the time to pull Smith, but then the Sharks score another goal to make it 5-3 after two periods. So, you'd think there would be a goalie change to start the 3rd period? Nope, Smith goes back out there and the Sharks score another goal to make it 6-3. THEN, Gulutzan pulls Smith.

So tired of this AHL coach pretending to be a NHL coach, pack your shit and get the hell out of here.

Here is a Phrase I don't utter often; "thank you, Anaheim".

Here's one I say more and more; "Stupid,Caps"
