Bret Bielema has confirmed that Town and another Arkansas player, running back Damon Mitchell, have decided to transfer from the Razorbacks. According to the head coach, the quarterback’s decision to transfer stems from a desire for a better shot at playing time.
Minnesota has indefinitely suspended 10 players from team activities for violations of team rules. The extent of the violations was not revealed by the university due to privacy restrictions, but it did list which players have been suspended. Among the suspended players are starting safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and kick and punt returners KiAnte Hardin and Antonio Shenault.
Winfield, a freshman, is Minnesota’s fourth-leading tackler this season and he has the only interception returned for a touchdown by the Gophers this year (and 82-yard return against Maryland). Hardin tied for the team-high with two interceptions this season and he returned 10 kickoffs for 260 yards this season. Shenault only returned five punts this fall for a total of 32 yards.
Other players facing indefinite suspensions include freshman defensive backs Ray Bufordand Dior Johnson, sophomore running back Carlton Djam, freshman quarterbacks Seth Green and Mark Williams, freshman defensive lineman Tamarion Johnson and junior running back Kobe McCrary. McCrary rushed 39 times in 12 games for 242 yards and three touchdowns. Djam appeared in just one game and carried the ball seven times for 33 yards.
Taking the traditional Twitter tack to make his announcement, Paul Lucas confirmed that he will be transferring from OSU. The running back stated he made the “tough decision… after careful consideration and talking with my parents.”
In a Twitter posting early Friday afternoon, Thomas indicated that he will be continuing his collegiate playing career at Florida State. Thomas’ high school coach subsequently confirmed to Warchant.com that the linebacker “has already signed his LOI to FSU.”
The erstwhile LSU wide receiver announced in a statement on his Twitter account Thursday that he has decided to transfer from the Tigers. “I know God will guide me in the way he wants me to go, but I’m blessed to say I was an LSU Tiger,” Ferguson wrote.
Ferguson was indefinitely suspended just a couple of days prior to the Nov. 5 game against Alabama for violating unspecified team rules. He remained suspended for the balance of the regular season.
In a posting to his Instagram account, Marshall revealed that he will enroll at James Madison and play for the Dukes. The move continues somewhat of a family tradition as Marshall’s father played football for the Dukes while his mother went to school there.
Torii Hunter Jr., the son of former major leaguer Torii Hunter, has announced that he will forego a fifth season of football eligibility at Notre Dame in order to pursue a career in professional baseball. Hunter was a 23rd-round pick of the California Angels in the MLB draft earlier this year and signed with the organization in June, but remained focus on football for the 2016 season.
Former USC starting quarterback Max Browne made things official on Thursday afternoon that he would be pulling the trigger and transferring to Pitt in January.
Dougherty’s role with the program was assisting in game plans and other analytical duties. As an analyst, you are not considered a member of the coaching staff and cannot be on the field or recruit for the program.
He will have a chance to do so at Oregon, so it is a good step up. Dougherty spent one season with the Wolverines this past year.
