Man with machete in Colorado’s athletics facilities dies after being shot, police confirm

The Colorado University police department issued an alert Wednesday morning regarding a man armed with a machete in the Champions Center, a facility opened earlier this year that houses, among other things, the football program’s offices and indoor practice facility. Police responded to the area and reportedly shot the subject in a stairwell of the building.

According to reports coming out of the area, campus police have confirmed the subject was shot an undetermined number of times after officers ordered him to drop the machete and he failed to comply. As a result, the unidentified male died as the result of the gunshot wounds he received.

LSU’s Mike VI mascot to ‘be humanely euthanized before he succumbs to cancer’

In May, LSU announced that Mike VI had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancerbut that, with “a new and highly sophisticated form of radiation therapy,” could “live comfortably” for another 1-2 years. Unfortunately that won’t be the case as a CT scan performed three days ago revealed that Mike’s tumor has resumed growth and the cancer has spread, the school announced Wednesday.

In its release, LSU writes that “[a]lthough the radiation treatment initially shrunk the tumor, the new CT scan revealed that the tumor, which is located on the right side of Mike’s head near his nose, has resumed growth and has encroached further into his nasal cavity.” Additional tumors were found in the tiger’s in his leg, throughout his lungs and elsewhere.

The prognosis is that Mike could live another 1-2 months, but the tiger “will be humanely euthanized before he succumbs to the cancer.”

With the Oklahoma Sooners preparing for the annual rivalry game with Texas on Saturday, one player is stepping into early retirement. Running back Daniel Brooks is reportedly calling it a career. Concussion issues are to blame. Brooks announced his decision via Twitter.

Miami dismisses freshman receiver Sam Bruce

According to Miami’s release, Bruce was dismissed for “multiple” violations of team rules, as well as a “failure” to meet the expectations for players set by first-year coach Mark Richt.

Citing multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, the New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Rickey Jefferson suffered a broken ankle during practice Wednesday. The sources believe that the injury will end the senior safety’s season.

Washington State linebacker Logan Tago was suspended from playing in games for the Cougars for the foreseeable future after being charged with second-degree felony robbery and fourth-degree misdemeanor assault.

The Waco Tribune is reporting that defensive back Eric Ogor has been been suspended for the remainder of the 2016 season. The only reason given was unspecified violations of team rules.
