Cards move to 7-6 against the Cubs this year I believe. Given the Cards road record, they might have a halfway decent shot if they play well enough down the stretch to get a playoff series again.

Someone might be losing their job soon.

I doubt Chapman asked for that music. People who run the sound boxes at sports events are in their own world.

I wasn't referring to Chapman.

Pirates still lingering around in the wild card race. A play in game between the Cardinals and Pirates wouldn't be unheard of with how the Giants have been playing lately.

In a play-in game for the Cards and Pirates, who pitches?

I suspect it would be Waino in a home game and CarMart on the road. Wainwright has been really streaky, though.

Its still hard to imagine the Giants not making the playoffs, though, even with their recent play. Lots of things still need to play out.

Cole vs waino but really no way to know who at this time:suds:

You aren't required to be right. It obviously depends on who is necessary to get them there. Eventually you have to use everyone.

Reds are 21-13 since the ASB (+47 run differential). The pitching's really turned it around.

Reds SP, 1st half: 5.29 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
Reds SP, 2nd half: 3.89 ERA (not including today), 1.28 WHIP
Reds RP, 1st half: 5.73 ERA (!), 1.59 WHIP
Reds RP, 2nd half: 2.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP

Reds pitchers overall were worth -3.5 WAR in the first half (dead last in MLB; Angels were 29th at 2.5). Reds pitchers have been worth 3.1 WAR in the 2nd half, 17th in MLB. Their ERA is outperforming their FIP/xFIP (4.17 / 4.06 respectively) by a good margin, but they've still improved significantly over their 1st half performance (5.66 / 5.07). They've still got a lot of good pitching prospects (Stephenson, Reed, Garrett) on the way too.

In a phrase, Alfredo Simon.

I don't do much with metrics, but I wonder what the Reds overall pitching was for the first 100 pitches of any game prior to the break. After the break, when the pitchers all came back from the DL, they were able to move guys like Hoover and Contreras and pitchers like them out of the equation. Daniel Wright is NOT going to get a spot start with this team now.

This is not a bad pitching staff now, just needs more experience. There is still a little dead wood there and that won't change until next year. It is not a great pitching staff, however.

Those are big factors. It's a pretty young pitching staff.

They give up 18 runs after I post that. Of course.

Reds are looking at the bright side. Scored 9 against the vaunted Doggie pitching staff. coff coff

But shutouts follow. Trust me.
