With the way the schedule breaks, it would be difficult but the NL has 3 Charmin soft wild card contenders this year. This is not the type of pitching down the stretch that wins a World Series
Are you assuming that only a wild card team can win the W.S.?

Not at all. I'm assuming that the Cubs are going to play the Nationals or maybe, just maybe the Dodgers.

Earlier I believed the Giants had enough pitching to win a short series. I think they still can but they can't waste one of them in a playin game.

This is great news for Reds fans.

The problem is, it's giving the Giants a chance and I am not all that excited about that either.
I guess the Mets are OK, better than the Yankees.

I despise the Giants as well but I just don't believe they have the pitching to win a series. The Cardinals worry me slightly more, though they're both laughably bad right now.

A month ago, I'd have said the Giants could win a best-of-5 with Cueto, Bum and Smardy ... but maybe not now since they obviously have to use one of them just to win the WC game.

Cardinals problem is that the guys who usually get 'em there are suddenly real beatable. That's just not a good pitching staff now.

Mets are burning through another harvest of young arms. Strange, but they can't blame Dusty Baker for ruining all those young arms. That must really suck.

The Giant might have the second best rotation in the playoffs (assuming they make it, which is a HUGE assumption), but their offense and bully are truly atrocious, so I certainly would not lay any $$ on them...

I didn't know complete game no-decisions were a thing.

The Reds have to file a protest, right? Too big a game for them not to...

The Reds should file a protest against the historically awful pitching stable that lets Dan Straily become a staff ace.

A zillion years ago before teams had lights, there were several ties annually. The reason nobody does it now is because they generally have just chosen to play the games as "suspended." With top level grounds crews, they can get a field in shape pretty easily. But ... had this been called a suspended game, the team would have been required to finish it this year -- and honor ticket sales. As it turns out, the game is complete -- so no rain checks -- and they are truly sorry it was a tie. The trick was to get through the top of the 5th inning to make it an official game.

This is part of the premise behind the day-night doubleheader. You sell 2 separate admissions. MLB isn't always sensible but it isn't stupid.

Why? The manager is an idiot and waited too long to notify he wanted to review. it's the last play of the game, if you have any doubt, you instantly call for review. Methaney had done it earlier in the year on a close, game ending play. You have nothing to lose...but by being a moron, they lost immediately!

As I stated in the Umpire thread, it wasn't Price's fault. It also wasn't the Umpires fault, though. It is just a really stupid rule.

There was no reason for Price to think there was anything to challenge. The 4 umpires and 9 Reds players did not notice where it bounced, how would Price, who was sitting in a below-field-level dugout?

The 10-second rule is stupid. Pure and simple.

Are the Cardinals and Giants playing to be one of the worst playoff teams ever? This is like watching the Lakers and Celtics fight for an 8 seed.

2005 Padres went 82-80 and got outscored by 42 runs. That 82-80 won the NL West. :L

D-Backs were only a few games back at 77-85, on the heels of a 51-111 season.
