As a Cardinals I'm kind of pleasured to see Heyward has struggled. Piscotty's been very good for us as well. I think Piscotty could be our #3 hitter once Holliday leaves

I can see Piscotty being the future staple for the Cardinals. Probably a 3-5 WAR young player with a good bat with some upside.

Cardinals have all of their money in the starting pitching and nothing in the outfield. I still expect them to make a FA move next year but there might not be one to make.

That was pretty much my impression of next year's fa class, too.

Cardinals are playing their best baseball of the season lately

Who green lights a pitcher on short rest in a regular season when he has never done it before?

If a team needed a player on the 27th of July, why does the team wait until the 31st to make the trade?

I agree, why not bring Reyes up for a spot start? Garcia is a mental midget and this could result in lingering problems.

Jason Heyward was a terrible signing by Cubs in offseason, I hated so much when I saw this singing in offseason. So overrated

Wouldn't expect him to finish with an ERA close to 2.22, but he's quietly become a very good pitcher. A lot of people seemed to dismiss him as a back-end starter, but he has a career 3.08 ERA in 386 innings now. He also has a 3.34 FIP and 3.55 xFIP, very solid marks.

LOL at Homer Bailey talking shit about the Reds' return on the Jay Bruce trade.

He said, "There's nothing personal about that, but right now, we're definitely making some moves that are quite questionable, especially for the guys who put on the jersey every day."

Funny shit. Instead of pissing and moaning about the Reds FO's ineptitude, he should STFU and just count his lucky stars that as a below average pitcher he's in the midst of a 6yr/$105MM contract due in large part to the questionable move the Reds made in giving him that contract.

"Questionable moves that the Reds make that result in $105MM in my bank account are pretty cool. The other ones? Not so much..."

I know, how could the Reds break up their core by trading Jay Bruce and his -0.3 WAR over the last 2.5 years?

(even if isn't truly costing them 13 or so runs defensively, he's still not good)

Yes, of course there's that, but even more so, I don't think it's Bailey's place to criticize Reds FO moves when he's getting filthy rich based on a Reds FO questionable move.

Coming from Votto? OK. I could handle that. He's a player. Bailey? He's a below-average pitcher making $17.5MM a year.

Speaking of Votto, he's now hitting a blistering .376/.516/.600 (197 wRC+) in 223 PA since the beginning of June. He was striking out a lot more than usual, but his K% has dipped back down to Votto levels. He's walked 22.4% of his plate appearances. He now leads the NL in OBP. I don't think he was even in the top 10 a couple of weeks ago.

I acquired him in a keeper fantasy league on 5/23, and he didn't want to disappoint me.

Harper, Bautista & Kershaw definitely wanted to disappoint me, so they put their heads together and cost me the championship.
