Curious enough to watch when? During the real playoffs? After they have sat a month and a half when the playoffs are over?

Not really a fan of the tournament idea for draft picks, but I find it more interesting than this regular season thing.

Theoretically, they could push the play-in games back a couple of days and have it over a 3-4 day stretch right after the regular season ends.

It wouldn’t be that hard

You could even double feature play in game with title game or semi finals

To me this reeks of something to use in bargaining for a new rights deal with the networks.

Is it a treble if you win this tournament, summer league, and the NBA championship?

If the network is ESPN they will pretend this gay tournament is super important.

"1st player to win all three tournaments"
"Breaking news"
Some losers will gobble this shit up and there will be paid social media influencer content promoting it.
"I'll do anything for money"

This is a culmination of all the worst ideas. A circus stunt with nothing of value.

Yeah, I don't know as that it's as bad as all that. Especially since it apparently isn't more games or stopping the season for some tournament.

It just seems contrived and the most compelling argument for it seems to be...why not try something new?

Which I don't find compelling at all.

I would actually find it more compelling if they it didnt count as regular season games tbh. If you are serious about this then cut the season down to 74 or 76 games and make this a serious thing. Treat it like march madness in a way. Play all games at neutral sites in cities without nba teams

Exactly. At least that way you are attaching some importance to it while also giving some fans a chance to attend a live game that they otherwise wouldn't get to. It could even be something of a "market test" for expansion.

This just seems like they're taking games that would be played anyway, calling it a tournament and giving some team a trophy for it that would be about as meaningful as winning the summer league title.

I have no problem with trying things, sports need to evolve, but this seems like a useless thing to try

Also the commish think people dont watch soccer. This isn't that similar to soccer tournaments during the season. The only similarities is the pool play followed by knockout round.

In soccer, the tournaments dont count towards the season standings & there are other teams participating. Not just the teams in the league

Lol you do realize it counts towards the regular season. Load managing vs teams you are likely fighting with for seeding seems like a great idea....lets give them a free win in our H2H which is first tiebreaker

Meh, teams load manage on games that count all the time.

@DJ isn't the first to float that idea. Heck, I said I hope the Lakers sit Lebron and AD during the tournament (although I thought it was extra games at the time).

I wonder if that's why the league is doing it in November? It's early in the season and teams may be less likely to have started load managing or tanking.
