With the exception of the Godfather and a couple others, making a series of movies is a really bad idea -- if movie quality is a motivating factor.

I would argue that the concept of sequels is badly flawed. In most cases Studios are just trying to squeeze more money out of movie goers.

Starting with movie II in a series -- we get a diet of excrement while paying the same price as the original.

I'm not a huge fan of it either, but I thought it was a well made movie. Even if the story of the movie was fictional, they did do a lot of work and spent a lot of money trying to make it as accurate as possible.

Translated: Chick flick that is too fucking long, but you gotta watch it if you wanna get laid that night.

I took my wife to see that on our first date. Worked like a charm. Just a word of caution though, it only works that first time. Haven't had the same results the couple times I've watched it with her since then.

I didn't even realize A Christmas Story had a sequel. It is our family tradition to watch this Christmas morning while we open presents.

There was actually a sequel to a Christmas story before the 2012 Christmas story 2.
It was called My Summer Story (It runs in the family)

The same guy narrated it. That's the only thing good I can say about this movie.

In 2012 the abomination Christmas Story 2 came out (right to DVD, what does that tell you)

Shrek II was awesome. I don't know what y'alls are talking about. Shrek III and IV I could've done without.

With Back to the Future - they had to make three.

Originally it was one script. Take all three of those films and try to squeeze them into one. Well, originally, that's the way the writer did it.

Robert Zemekis realized that's way to much to try to squeeze into one 2 hour film. Had he have done that he'd have ended up with a Roland Emmerich 4 hour movie and it would have been chopped up crap.

So he made it into 3 films.

There is a huge difference between bad and unwatchable... Movies like Back to the future 3 was awful but it was still entertaining...

Weekend at Bernies

Without the second one we wouldn't have the famous "Bernie" dance.

I'm not talking about the quality of the sequels, but whether or not they are needed for the story. For instance, Terminator only had 2 that were great. But the 3rd and 4th ones helped tell the story of 1st and 2nd, and ones they will make will do the same, even though they will never live up to it.

Horror movie sequels are usually awful. It's probably easier for me to mention sequels I actually liked for that genre, which I used to be a fan of. The two that come up right away are Exorcist III (The 2nd one was god-awful) and the original Evil Dead series.
