Being good is reasonable, and I think Harbaugh has done a good job at flipping Michigan so far. Michigan's situation was unique because no one expected last year to be great given the number of players lost from the 2016....which by all accounts was one of the best teams in the country that year. And had a call gone our way on the last play in OT at Columbus, we might be having a different conversation right now. People very easily overlook the fact that Harbaugh was a single call away from a division title, B10 title birth and shot at a national title in year 2.
Really? Who was our talented QB?
LOL 2 games wouldn't have made any sort of difference. You haven't finished higher than 3rd in the division. When seasons are only typically 13 games, 2 wins is significant. It also means Harbaugh has 2 less losses. Apply two losses to any season Harbaugh has had and things take a turn for the worse very quickly. It means a 10 win season is an 8 win season. Or both 10 win seasons are now 9 win seasons. I think you're downplaying the significance of those two wins in just a 3 year span. If Hoke gets 2 more wins in 2014 he might not have gotten fired. In CFB there's a distinct difference between 7 and 8 win seasons or 9 and 10 win seasons. That single game, or two games, is huge.
I think the major difference is that people expected Harbaugh to be Urban or Saban in year 3. Which, looking back objectively, is unreasonable. I wouldn't call his first 3 years a failure either.
I thought he was the QB whisperer? It’s almost like they fired Hoke for a reason. I mean, doesn’t every single coach walk into two top ten classes? How dare Hoke not have an NFL ready QB for Harbaugh. He had NFL wide receivers, Tight ends, and then there was a top ten defense just sitting there for him. Are you really trying to say that Beilein walked into a better situation than Harbaugh did?Really? Who was our talented QB?
Yup. You guys had the best D in the country that year and were two wins away from the playoffs. It will be interesting to see what you do with Shea at QB.Being good is reasonable, and I think Harbaugh has done a good job at flipping Michigan so far. The problem is, you're comparing success goals in taking over an extremely healthy OSU program to success goals in taking over a broken Michigan program. Of course Urban was able to do well quickly. Not counting Fickel, Urban took over a program that was already winning 11+ games a year. The guy before him got fired for other things not performance things. It's unreasonable to compare the timelines. Some meeeechegan fans still insist Jimmy Jam's on the same CFB coaching level as Meyer & Saban because of what he did in the NFL. Ask your pal trustme about it. He'll break it all down for you.
And yes he has been a failure so far. Does he have a winning record against Ohio State or Michigan State? Has he won his division? Has he won the conference? Tressel entering his 4th year won a Natty & 2 Fiesta Bowls. Meyer in his 2nd year @ Utah went undefeated. His 2nd year @ Florida he won a Natty. By the end of his 4th year he won a 2nd Natty. And in his 3rd year in Columbus he won a Natty. Saban in his 3rd year @ Bama won a Natty.
Harbaugh's a damn good HC. But w/ his incomplete CFB coaching resume he can't be called one of the 2 or 3 best coaches in the country right now.
Wouldn’t it be fair to compare with what Saban walked into at Alabama? The problem is, you're comparing success goals in taking over an extremely healthy OSU program to success goals in taking over a broken Michigan program. Sure, except for the fact that Saban is arguably the best college football coach at any point in history.....and Alabama is smack dab in the center of a modern recruiting hotbed.Wouldn’t it be fair to compare with what Saban walked into at Alabama?
Coaching against a bunch of other teams in the modern recruiting hotbed. Harbaugh walked into a conference that doesn’t recruit for shit save one team and is at one of the top ten easiest programs to recruit at in any conference in the United States and was given the head start of two top ten recruiting classes while no other team in the conference had one top ten class except Ohio State.Sure, except for the fact that Saban is arguably the best college football coach at any point in history.....and Alabama is smack dab in the center of a modern recruiting hotbed.
So it's not really that unreasonable that we finished 3rd in the conference twice. We were just 1 off our recruiting rank standing in the conference.Coaching against a bunch of other teams in the modern recruiting hotbed. Except you finished third in the division not the conference. Iowa was better than you in 2015 and you were like 6th or 7th in the conference last year.So it's not really that unreasonable that we finished 3rd in the conference twice. We were just 1 off our recruiting rank standing in the conference.
Yeah, but everyone knows western division teams don't count. Iowa faced literally no one that year. In the regular season they missed Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and Michigan....Except you finished third in the division not the conference. Iowa was better than you in 2015 and you were like 6th or 7th in the conference last year.
Fuck Iowa
Um....that's just blatantly false. If Michigan beats OSU in 2016, they finish 1st in the division....LOL 2 games wouldn't have made any sort of difference. You haven't finished higher than 3rd in the division.
He also beat Ohio State.Hoke lost to teams like Minnesota, Indiana and Maryland. There's just no comparing the two.
Did they though? No, so that's an L for Harbaugh.Um....that's just blatantly false. If Michigan beats OSU in 2016, they finish 1st in the division....
