Damn, that hurts the A's a ton. Not only has he been solid for them this year, but he's also an inning eater and a veteran presence for that young staff. The A's youngsters are going to have to step up their game a ton. Regardless though, they've had a great season.

Unlike us with Melky, the A's are well-equipped to absorb this blow. They'll just call up one of their many promising arms. Probably Dan Straily will ultimately replace him, though I don't think he can be called up right away since they just sent him down to make room for Brett Anderson.
