lets get the discussion going about this option brought to the table days ago.

What will this mean for the league? How will it work? And what is everyone's thoughts on including it?

I'd like whomever it was that originally proposed this one to give a nice run down on what was being suggested, before we go off in 13 different tangents

Agreed. We need a breakdown on all points before we decide on this one. It's not one to rush into impulsively, right TKO? ;)

18 rostered.
Keep 13.
5 left over for one round draft.
optional pick?
14 on roster for four round "rookie" draft to get to 18.
Rule 5 selection cannot be dropped the next season.
those that don't select a rule 5 pick, have a 5th round pick?

Just spit balling here....

Players not selected in the rule 5, return to their owner. The owner then has the ability to keep one more and not use their 5th round pick, swap one keeper out for an unselected, and use their 5th round pick or do nothing and use their 5th round pick.

...again, just spit balling

Okay. .what TKO just said all sounds like way more than I'd ever want to consider.

Gotta agree with ya. I think a straight keeper option of either 15 or 16 would be better. Then we only draft 2 or 3 rounds, most of the picks likely to be rookies. The rule 5 seems like too much? :noidea:

I actually think it was SP, or maybe Smitty..but don't quote me?

Was under the impression that after the season, we protected a certain amount, everyone else was exposed to a draft of X rounds, have the draft, and that was that. ..that sounded okay to me, good way to ensure at least a little parity..but if it had to be more complex than that. ..I dunno

someone else proposed it, but i was the one who SIMPLIFIED it(i know it surprised everyone)...

The simplified Rule 5 rules

Rule 5 draft is done before the Rookie Draft

A team protects a certain amount of players( lets say 10)

There is a certain amount of rounds(lets say 3)

No team can lose MORE players than the number of rounds(3)

All players not picked go back to the original owner

Draft order is based on Previous years record- last to first with no snake(This i would propose that first pick goes to the last NON playoff and then go down to last and then reverse playoffs- so 7,8,9,10,11,...,14,6,5,...,1)

the numbers in parenthesis are debatable...

This was my understanding as well. My question was whether or not the unprotected players and rookies were in the same draft or if they were separate.

That actually does sound much more simplistic. .and yes, I'm surprised. .albeit pleasantly :)

I'm inclined to say no.

We keep whatever we are supposed to keep allowed to keep. Whether it's 10 12 15 whatever
And we replenish with draft last to first. Or last to playoff teams and playoff results

If you want my players come and trade for them

Keep it simple. As we do with all MBBRLeagues. Keep it simple

Why should anyone have to expose players
If we had expansion maybe but not now.
My team is my team as your team is your team

Let's say some one built an awesome squad and then you guys r*pe his team with rule 5 stuff. That owner is punished for being lucky and or good. IMHO that is ridiculous
