There's no team out there that doesn't have an established RB already that wouldn't want Le'Veon Bell. We have a talent that really hasn't been seen in a while. A RB that can be a #1 RB and also rival many WR1s on half the teams in the NFL. If you restructure Ben's contract, cut some guys that aren't vital to this team and guys that you can actually replace in the draft or free agency and you will solve all the money problems. RBs have been catching passes for years but not to the extent to what they are in today's NFL. The RB position is evolving into a catch AND run position. If you can't use your RB as a good target for a reception as well than you don't have a very good RB.
But one thing that you don't seem to understand is you can get a great amount of production from multiple guys vs just 1. The Titans, Panthers, Falcons, Patriots, Eagles & Saints were all top 10 in rushing offense this season. Over half of the top 10 rushing offenses in the league did so by some sort of committee. You can debate how each team accomplished it, but it still doesn't change the fact that none of those teams did so with just 1 guy.

I've answered this question more than a handful of times already. Go back & read if you're that interested in my opinion. You clearly will never agree with it, so what's the point?

Short answer... Yes I'm confident. But that has more to do with my confidence in the O-line, regardless of what John Doe they have at RB.

I just can't understand this position that Bell isn't a necessity. I get the o-line is important but you could say the same thing about why you don't need a good QB. Why pay for good positional players when we have the best O-line in the league? I can't get behind that thought process.

You guys need to try and trade for Smith.....if Ben retires. He'd be a perfect bridge starter till a youngster is ready.

Not a necessity?

Lol. If you have a rookie or young QB, yes he is. Best RB in the game.

Have you been to sleep yet or is your brain oxygen deprived?
Christ, none of you seem to understand where I'm coming from.

I'm not trying to devalue Le'Veon because I KNOW he is an elite playmaker. All Im' trying to say is the Steelers can survive without him.

But to your point DJ... Yes I would value Bell a lot more if Ben was going to retire.

Ben already hinted at his return saying this game wouldn't be his last at Heinz field. With that in mind I don't think Bell is a necessity. They have the O-line to give a decent RB good to great production. Not sayin Bell is replaceable though since he accounted for a ridiculous amount of the Steelers offense and he's an elite difference maker. But if they could get 800-1000yds from James Conner or a RBBC, then they would be just fine.
He shld. He has looked like shit at times this season. We have discussed this during the season....

Where were you yesterday? Kept waiting for you to pop on game threads. Some trolls showed up.

For the Panthers, most of that rushing came from the QB. You take away Cam's rushing stats and the Panthers had one of the bottom 5 running games in the league. Titans were not a top 10 rushing offense this year. They were 15th in the league. You take away Mariota's 312 rushing yards and the Titans fall to 27th in the league. Rams did it with 1 guy. (Gurley) Bills did it with 1 guy. (McCoy)

Your viewpoint on what's essential or necessary is more based on current value. Again, I'm not saying that I don't want a good positional player behind the O-line. Of course I want the best, and that means I want Bell to stay. But the reality of that happening is a little difficult to see.

My bad I was looking at postseason stats. But still, the thought process remains. There are teams that have achieved great results without 1 guy leading the show.

You ARE trying to devalue Le'Veon. He isn't replaceable but we don't need him. That's complete bullshit. I'm sorry. The o-line can part the defense like the red sea but we still need a good RB to see them and be fast running up and down the field. Guess what? We have that guy already.

Probably and I wouldn't blame him. Same for Brees. If he wins the SB, he should retire.

Should be a great game regardless of the outcome. Pittsburgh has some demons to exorcise this postseason. 1 game at a time!

So let's cut the o-line, get rid of Ben and put in dirty laundry, and cut AB just to keep bell at his 15......

Can't have all the luxuries, it's not in the cap.

Bell is an elite running back, but running backs are dime a dozen.....we have a long history of making nobody running backs into good running backs.

Pitt often lets WR's leave....they may not have the same success but I'd go balls to the wall to keep Bell. He's not just good but the best RB.....

I'd keep Bell and trade AB if you had to make a decision. You have Bryant, Schuster, and James.

You can draft a WR and Bell helps in the passing game also.
