Next year's pick is protected 1-20 and converts to 2 2nds in 2020.

I'm really starting to scratch my head about why the Spurs made this trade. They must really love DeRozan.

If the pick was an unprotected 2020 I would get the trade

I don't see how Spurs got better,

47 win team adds:

1) All Star guard
2) backup small foward, age 20
3) 31 year old backup guard who is a better offensive option
4) backup big man
5) Ability to design an offense around the guys that are there instead of guys that were not
6) future picks
7) 22 year old backup point guard

loses:
1) malcontent who did not play at all last season and distracted the entire team
2) 31 year old backup guard who is a better defensive option
3) 25 year old backup small forward
4) 36 year old backup point guard

People think the SPURS won 47 games with Kawhi. They did not. They won 47 without him. He did not play.
He only tore the team apart with headaches and uncertainty.

They will be better.

I don't see how Spurs got better, they downgraded from their best player gave up their 2nd best defender and hurt their wing depth and added a 4th maybe 3rd big to the rotation.

Yeah I dont know about more damgerous WITH Kawhi but they won 47 without Kawhi so with Derozan, who I think can fit in this system well, along with a big off the bench and some good rookies they will be better but not than with a healthy Kawhi. Still 50-55 games is a great for losing your best player

They won 47 games without Kawhi, and using a patchwork system they could not change because they thought that possibly Leonard was returning.

SA won 47 games....you said they won 47 w/o Leonard.

0-9 when Leonard played? Pretty sure you're wreong on that.

I think he means with a healthy Kawhi, like two years ago. I mean he didnt want to play so we have to judge the roster on that 47 win team. With Derozen they will win 50, possibly 55-60. So yes, they are better, but not better than with a healthy Kawhi that wants to be there

Sure Spurs got better over the entire offseason. I was commenting to the claim that the spurs got better from the trade, they absolutely did not.

It reallly doesnt matter.

This move was all about how to handle Murray.
DEJOUNTE MURRAY is the best player on the Spurs. He will be an allstar staple within 2 years tops.

I repeat without any pause: DEJOUNTE MURRAY is the best player on the Spurs that has Aldridge/Derozan.

This enables them to keep winning while continuing the development of Murray.
Win for the short term. Win for the long term of molding Murray as the next big Spurs star.

If the Spurs simply tore everything down and headed to the lottery, Murray would probably get bored and look to leave.
The worst thing that SA could do would be to fuck up the development of Murray.

He still only played 9 games. That is a 1/10 of season, that isnt many games. They made it to the playoffs w/o him

In the regular season, maybe.

Postseason? Allow me to introduce you to playoff Demar. He's like regular season Demar if the Monstars ignored Jordan, Barkley etc. and specifically targeted only Demar for talent-draining.

"How did that basketball end up in the parking lot?", you will ask yourself after Demar shoots his eighth uncontested three and misses so badly it somehow manages to escape an enclosed arena.

His playoff numbers are slightly worse, it’s mainly about playing Lebron every year where they fell apart. He will have the best coach over him so that could help but guess what...he follows Lebron to the West. Life really sucks for him other than making $30M a year lolzzz

If you just tore the whole thing down for all these Laker assets
1. Pouty Aldridge who mails in a 35 win season
2. Dejounte Murray getting infected with the malaise and losing culture

If you add enough to keep competitive
1. Aldridge + Derozan getting you 52 wins
2. Dejounte Murray improving and making that big leap while still winning

The SPURS entire plan is to build Murray into the next big star.
He is already better and younger than any of the players the Lakers offered.

Why fuck that up? Why scrap the entire Murray plan after he finally breaks through and makes an All-NBA defense team.
