You guys see this? I was listening to the radio on my way in today. The SExual Assault he was cleared of. Apparently before anything happened the "victim" said, give me 7 million and you'll never hear from me again.

Just a perfect example of why the NFL needs to take a wait and see approach to DV charges. Cannot suspend on the allegation.

I think the point is any situation can be exploited by unscrupulous people. I think about the time a woman came forward claiming Jerome Bettis sexually assaulted her and it was proven to be a sham.

In this current climate I wonder if Bettis would have been suspended or worse before the investigation revealed the extortion attempt.

Now you may feel that it is no big deal for a player to have to miss a few games while 'due process' plays out but remember players have a very finite number of opportunities to engage in this profession. 3 or 4 games is a quarter of the season and that is an awful long time to have to miss because someone concocted a scheme against you in an effort to gain riches for themselves.

Just because she wanted money doesn't necessarily mean it didn't happen. Of course, since the police and school didn't want anything to do with it at the time only 2 people know for sure what happened.

The assumption in this thread is that DV is nearly as hard to prove as sexual assault is silly. That's why the NFL has a "case by case" basis. DV is usually an open and shut case. No one comes months later after a DV charge and claims their BF beat the crap out of them. Sexual assault a lot of times takes a more thorough investigation.

eh, i don't know if i call it extortion. this is what happens when people want to file civil suits, they throw a huge number out there and say they won't talk if they get paid. then the other party can choose to counteroffer or not pay.
