I like Clowney as a player, but he's not worth franchise tag money. Even if the Texans were able to weasel their way into slotting him as an OLB. He's be changing schemes from 3-4 to 4-3, on top of that.

And the price tags that Hayes pooh-poohs are nuts.

I still say no. I like Clowney a lot. And, in a vacuum, I would take him on for sure. But the business of football is not in a vacuum. We still have to pay to keep multiple other good players over time and I would hate to see us strapped out.

As great as Howie has been on the cap this would crush and he knows it. Likely we’ve talked and if there is still talk Howie will only offer at a number he can work with. Short of that I’m not interested.

I would not do this for a couple of reasons. First, what exactly has Clowney done in this league to get the money he gets? He's never had double digit sacks. He's a better run stopper than a pass rusher. And, Schwartz likes to rotate the line and how would Clowney react to that? No way would I do this. Keep the cap space and continue building via draft.

OK, the cap could work for this one year. But with uncertainty at this moment for 2021 and beyond (what will the cap be, etc?) there is maybe some hesitation to sign too many past that point.

OK, I am fine with Vaitai going, but is the team? Also, a third is nothing considering something close could come back in a comp pick. But, is that really it? Vaitai and a 3rd? Maybe the reality is that Houston expects more. Would we want to give up any draft pick in future years to maybe only get him one year?

If we make an offer, it will probably be Vaitai, plus a slot receiver - Greg Ward? Marken Michel? I wouldn't want to give up Agholor, or Hollins, but who knows?

Clowney is headed to Miami ... I think we'll see that trade happen soon.
