Yeah they have to be top 8 in the BCS. Gosh what a joke. I mean teams that finished outside the top 8 never went on to play in a BCS game. And I guess Boise State gets special rules as well because the BCS had to automatically take them in 2006 when they finished top 8 in the BCS? :noidea:

I guess you all will never get it. But hey, keep enjoying those invites only to get skull drug every time. An avg of 25 point Beat down included in that 0-4 BCS record.

But at least they were there right? I guess when we consider a 3-12 bowl record over last 15 bowls it really doesn't matter what bowl they are in. Overwhelmingly the chances are, they lose. The bigger the stage the bigger the curb stomping.

What do marijuana and Notre Dame have in common?

Put them in a bowl and they get smoked.

Yes. ND got their asses handed to them. This I know. And yes, they have lost many bowl games as of late, for which I don't really care. I don't know if you think continually bringing up how bad ND lost will affect me but it doesn't at all.

But this last response you've completely gone off the topic at hand. Which was how deserving they were. Outside of going to the title game in 2012, 2005 was ND's MOST deserving year since they automatically qualified for it.

Wow, 05?? That is sad. lil ol Oregon had only 1 loss and was ranked higher in bcs. Yet got left out because of
2 loss and lower ranked ND getting the nod.

That was 2nd most deserving? I am sorry, I actually feel bad now.

Oregon should have won their conference or finished top 4 in the BCS standings if they wanted to go to a BCS game that year. And I love how you get on ND's ass yet let FSU slide when they were ranked 23rd.

There were 4 BCS bowls that year. Oregon and ND both deserved to go. Get on FSU or WVU that year. It's just a little hypocritical when you bash ND for automatically qualifying yet don't do the same when two teams automatically qualified that weren't even in the top 10.

ND was ranked 6th, Oregon was 5th. ND was an auto bid anyway.
And yes, you proved my point. ND has "special" rules to qualify vs teams that actually play in a conference.
The "Ranked 6th" rule is not a special exception for Notre Dame. Utah qualified under that same rule a couple of years back. In other words, that rule applied to everyone. The "Ranked 14th" rule is where Notre Dame had special consideration. Just food for thought.

Obs. Topic I hate the very idea of "blue bloods" irrespective of whether Florida State is one or not.

And ND was never ranked lower than 11 when it went to a bowl, a feat surpassed by Michigan, Va Tech, Syracuse, Louisville, FSU and going even way back, Purdue and Stanford. It's just laughable that people think that joining a conference meant a harder path to these games. They had guarantees for conference winners, regardless of record or rank.

Thank you for using my post in which I said that Notre Dame had special considerations under the rules to prove that Notre Dame didn't have special considerations. that too was "Feckin' brills."

Add LSU, Pitt, Wake Forest, Illinois, UConn, Clemson, Northern Illinois, UCF and Wisconsin to that list as well.

There were 56 times a team ranked below 6 has gone to a BCS game during the BCS era. Yet, ND being ranked 6th in 2005 all of the sudden means they get preferential treatment for playing in one?

Given that there were a minimum of eight spots in BCS bowls, I would say there was a team ranked below #6 EVERY SINGLE YEAR! (Scandal)

Correct, which is why getting on ND's ass for being ranked 6th and making the BCS that year is dumb.

And you also talked about the fond memories you have of USC's game against Oklahoma. I'm just letting you know, the game was vacated and USC did not win that game.

The WIN was vacated. Hence they won. Have fun being the thought police. I will keep my fond memories of USC blowing out Oklahoma thank you very much. Lol

I think you add Nebraska, you have your "blue blood" list, for whatever it is worth.

Are you seriously asking a Texas fan to add Nebraska to any positive list? :pound:

Back to the original post, I guess we have to define the timeline and parameters of what qualifies as a "blue blood".

Does a team have to have national success before 1980? 1970? 1960? 1950 and so on...?

I think the timeframe is obviously the biggest issue. Where is the cutoff?
