I was reading this article and it was a lot of argument whether Florida State was a blue blood or not

The State of College Football's Blue Bloods | Bleacher Report

I guess it would depend on a persons definition of blue blood.

Heres one guys opinion. Taken from the blue board;

Michigan - 910 wins @ 73%, 11(claimed) mNCs, 3 Heismans, 42 Conference Championships
* Michigan went undefeated in 1992 but didn't get awarded a national title. They should pull an Auburn.

Texas - 875 wins @ 71%, 4 mNCs, 2 Heismans, 32 Conference Championships

Notre Dame - 874 wins @ 73%, 11 mNCs, 7 Heismans,
* did you know that Notre Dame could technically claim a 2012 national championship? They should pull an Auburn.

Nebraska - 865 wins @ 70%, 5 mNCs, 3 Heismans, 43 Conference Championships

Ohio State - 849 wins @ 71%, 7 mNCs, 7 Heismans, 36 Conference Championships

Oklahoma - 842 wins @ 71%, 7 mNCs, 5 Heismans, 44 Conference Championships

Alabama - 838 wins @ 71%, 15 claimed mNCs, 1 Heisman, 27 Conference Championships

USC - 796 wins @ 70%, 11 mNCs (10 after stripped), 7* Heismans (6 after stripped), 36 Conference Championships

Those are your Blue Bloods. Tennessee has over 800 wins but are under 70% win percentage.
........................................................
Before people star their talking points of what has taken place the last 10 or 15 years, every single program listed above had a period in their history where they were down and out for well over a decade to only rise back up to national power. So the talking points of 'what have you done for me lately' doesn't fly when you are discussing this category since this is a historical conversation.

This is the list that every recognizes. I am sure we will still hear from the Johnny come lately programs about how some are down or some should not be on the list. This is still the list that ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBS, Ect. Go by.

Florida State will be added once they reach the .70% mark. That is the cutoff. Otherwise you get a bunch of teams in the .60%s and the list has no value.

Nope. Not enough wins and have not played long enough.

If you want to go by % they will be there in a few yes if they keep winning. They are at 67.5% right now.

Definitely not a blue blood, but they are a top tier program.

Oh no. Michigan has an undefeated year without a NC. Try 1968-69, 73 and 94.

I know. That is so ridiculously absurd.

You don't get beat all year and no NC. :L

Don't win your own division or conference in today's cfb however, and you can get one.

Therefore IB's mNC notation.

Does anyone really care anymore?

Harvard used to be really good at football.

That is a very good point. And teams that rely on this notion of tradition too much get left behind.

Michigan is a perfect example. "We want a Michigan man" mentality is a good way to get your program buried.

Alabama is a prime example of a team that has both the tradition and progressive thinking. A combo of both is the sign of a program doing the right thing.

Oregon, a team that has virtually no historic power tradition, has the best record over 5 years. Why? Because they thought outside the box and made Oregon a brand, doing it different than any other program.

A power blue blood taking that approach is unstoppable.

Teams that are in fertal recruiting grounds as well. LSU, UF, FSU, etc

Penn State IMO, has the highest upside moving forward. They got a modern cfb coach to leave the SEC for B1G. They have a good pipeline to southern players and live in a good recruiting ground.

You misspelled Alabama? Or do you somehow dispute Auburn has 2 MNC's?

:gaah:

Ohio has Urb and tradition, they will be fine.

But to laugh at the notion PSU is going to be at or near the top of the b1g is short sighted.

PSU will be the conferences flag bearer in several of the upcoming years.

They have by far the best QB in conference. They are top 5 in recruiting... Etc

When I think blue blood, I think premier brand in CFB with national success dating back several decades. Think Ohio St, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn St, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Georgia. There are a number of other schools that are right on the cusp of that or have had more recent success but those are the ones I think of.

FSU is right on the cusp of that IMO. They've been good for a few decades now and have a number of national championships.

PSU is going to be really good in a year or 2 the way they are trending. Doesn't hurt to have a stud QB.

Agreed. Hell of a job by O'Brien to keep the ship from completely sinking. And the Franklon hire was really good.

B1G should be celebrating as a whole after the recent news. The conference must have PSU as a viable program again.

And IMO, they are on their way to just that. I also think they will sustain success.

I never said that, I think they'll be a solid team in the coming years, I guess I mistook what you meant by "highest upside"...
