Interesting fact…

The Pirates OTHER catcher, Henry Davis, was the #1 overall in the ‘21 draft.
And he may be more rough defensively behind the plate than Bart. The Pirates' catching corp got thinned out dramatically in the last month. They chose to let Ali Sanchez walk. Meanwhile they've had 3 other catchers go on the IL (Rodriguez, Grandal and Delay). They needed someone and Bart was available at the right time.

Meanwhile, Kris Bryant is slugging a robust .528 OPS for Colorado.
Caleb Kilian is beginning to look like a flash in the pan. Canario may be the guy that determines whether or not the trade was a bust for the Cubs

Is Killian hurt? He hasn’t made an appearance yet this year.

And yikes. Since joining the Cubs, he really has been hot garbage. He has made appearances in the show, but those have been disastrous and his AAA numbers have not been impressive in the slightest. I really thought he was going to be the one who made us hate that trade. So far, not so much.

Yes he is injured and he looks to be out for awhile. MLBTR reported in March that he was diagnosed with a teres major strain and the recovery time would be a few months.

Oh yay, we've acquired yet another pitcher get the crap knocked out of his pitches on a regular basis in AAA . . .

No word yet if he's going on the 40 man roster.
There is a bit of discussion about him after this post from a couple years back. I have no recollection of this dude.

This was the kid we sent to the Reds when they took Sabol in the RuleV draft last year.

Sabol may have been a RuleV, but he wasn’t a free pickup for us, and we payed a full price to get him (as if he weren’t a RuleV). Sabol is alright, but he should NOT be viewed as “found money”.

I had forgotten that the Giants traded Wong for him until I saw that article. Wong didn't do a whole lot for the Reds so it looks like a slight win for the Giants, depending how much Sabol can contribute going forward, it may be more than a slight win.

In hindsight, sure, it may be a win.

But we trade the guarantee of a mid-level prospect for the POSSIBILITY of a mid-level prospect. The Giants had to keep Sabol on the 26 all year or offer him back to the Pirates for some pocket change.

So, in essence, the Giants trade Wong AND a locked 26 spot to the Reds. Maybe the Giants put Wong in the “worthless” category, or they REALLY liked Sabol. If either of those were the case, fine. But I don’t see Sabol as anything overly special. And if the Giants were to actually compete last year, then that roster spot would have been super important.

If this were a vacuum situation, I wouldn’t even bring it up. But this is FZ and every time I lift a rock (or pebble, in this case), I find more muck and cockroaches.
