I am very interested in the 2nd round of games which could blow up brackets...

Florida vs. Pitt

AZ vs. Ok State

Those two in particular worry me.

You guys will CRUSH Pitt

We will CRUSH OK State

Worry no more, my friend!

The head of the selection committee was on ESPN yesterday and explained it is based on complete body of work and not on how a team is playing today.

There was a prime example where a team just beat another... but was ranked well behind that he used to explain it.

So... seeding and actual rankings based on today's play are mutually exclusive based on his explanation.

that said selection committee had Baylor over Texas. Texas swept Baylor and finished 2 games above them in conference. I would never take what the committee says too seriously.

Well the ESPN host were using his own logic against him a couple times and he had no good response...

So who knows...

Not saying anyone is right. I think it is fair to say both are using random logic.

I have a Florida vs. Arizona final. Florida winning it all. It's a wide open field. There are a dozen teams that are capable of winning it this year.

Did he use the same logic for Lville?

He did, and also the quality of the AAC really hurt teams like UL, UC (Most had UC at a 3 or 4 seed, and UL as a 2-3 at worst, and maybe sneaking in at #1, but that is a different argument) and of course SMU.

The top 4-5 teams were pretty good, with the worst being SMU (OOC schedule killed them as well as 3 bad losses). the bottom 5 teams were dreadful. Probably some of the worst major D-I teams in the NCAA's. UCF? USF? Ooff.

I actually like spartys number 4 seed spot better than wichita sts number 1 seed spot....the teams sparty lines up with give us a favorable match up.....looking at wichita sts bracket is brutal....kentucky in the round of 32? Wow!

But yeah everyone picking sparty is going to jinx us....wish we couldve stayed more under the radar...but anything can happen in march...

But we are healthy now and got some games to gel a little better....with dawson michigan didnt have a chance..

Here's the thing to keep in mind...

The Committee has rules regarding, avoiding rematches from earlier in the season in the early rounds, rules about playing on your home court (or a court you've played on a lot) they also make an effort to let teams play close to home if possible.

If you look at all of the factors that the committee uses to seat teams, you'll see that "merit" isn't that high on the list. They make a real effort to make sure the 1 seeds are deserving, but after that, its more of an issue of following all of the other rules and guidelines more than it is making sure every team is seeded exactly where they should be.

not sure how Michigan got a better ranking in the tournament then MSU

State lost too many games when Appling, Payne and Dawson were banged up. Thought they might get a three seed with the win yesterday but once MI held out over Illinois on Friday nobody in the BIG10, outside of Wisconsin, was going to get a higher seed, IMO. 15-3 in conference was no small feat.

I don't think Michigan State reaches the Final Four. To me, Michigan State is so incredibly handsy on defense. I fully expect that tourney games will be called tightly because of the freedom of movement emphasis that was made during the offseason. If that does happen, then I think Michigan State could be in a bit of foul trouble.

They were impressive during the Big Ten Tourney, but I think Michigan State could get hampered during the NCAA Tourney.

that happening is less likely than Harvard beating Cincy

Here's how we matchup with OK St's 3 best:

Marcus Smart covered by our best defender Nick Johnson
Markel Brown covered by the 2nd best defensive frosh in the country: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
Lebryan Nash covered by the best defensive frosh in the country: Aaron Gordon

Even Phil Forte gets hounded by TJ McConnell, well known for his Craft-lite defensive abilities.

We are a HORRIBLE matchup for OK State, but keep in mind Gonzaga isn't a good matchup for them either with their size inside.

Only 1 of the last 17 champions lost as many conference games as Michigan St did this year.

... and I don't see a Kemba Walker on this team

It's Quivering Couch time...

s'kinda fun seeing State as the speculative center of the cbb universe...shit doesn't happen that often.

yes, a whole lot of really knowledgeable folks have placed a bookoo faith in what (with almost any other team under similar circumstances) would have seemed wholly improbable: MSU making a viable run for another FF/NC.

pretty fuckn high bar...fer sure.
but it's a goal Izzo & Co set publically before the season started; one we fans have agonized along with the team all season; and now (almost as if by magic) is only 4-5 games off; and that goal's bandwagon is now straining at the axles with pundits and well-wishers nationwide.

A National Championship would be swell as shit; Runner-Up would be only slightly less swell; Final Four would be sorta fine; E8 somewhat ok; S16 grudgingly acceptable (fuk thet chit). Anything less? the couch goes.
