And the Big 12 had half it's team finish ranked 90th or worse in scoring defense, while the B1G had half their teams finish in the top 19 in scoring defense.

Again, that's what happens when you play zero offense in your conference. need I remind you what happened to your reps (Iowa, MSU) once they stepped out of your conference.....

Oh cool, so we're playing the "let's cherry pick obscure stats" game.

You do realize the score is a reflection of the combined performance of offense, special teams, and the defense? I hope you are joking, because that is an amazingly ignorant response.

Not really, Codaxx is pointing out how awful the B1G is on offense, which inflates their defensive stats tremendously.
By cherry-picking obscure stats. MSU had no problem racking up big points against Baylor that year, more than all but two other teams did.

Actually pointing out the performance when MSU's defense was on the field and Baylor's offense was on the field. Not trying to make a statement that can be influenced by things like field position and defensive scores.

Need I remind you also what Ohio State and michigan did against two top-tier OOC defenses in their bowl game? Hell, that "elite" Florida defense made Jake Rudock look like Joe Montana. It can go either way.

You're joking, right? Big12 has always had some of the most explosive offenses in college football. It's the defense that seems optional among teams like Texas Tech, WVU, Baylor, and Oklahoma state.
U don't think the two go hand and hand? When a conference plays no defense, u end up with explosive offenses and vice versa.

Yes I do. And no, it's not ignorant. You're pulling out one minor statistic and making it out to be the most important because it goes along with your argument.

Well, only Maryland and PSU held the MSU offense to less yards per play than Baylor. 88 plays was the highest total for the MSU offense that year.

How is it minor? It is the per play data. It is a lot more relevant than score when you are discussing a defensive unit vs an offensive unit. MSU's defense was obliterated. You dont need a PHD to figure that out

Baylor's defense was terrible. Nobody was pimping out Baylor's defense. Just pointing out how Baylor shredded MSU's defense. Just saw MSU's defense gave up an average of 250 yds and 19ppg in B1G conference play that year. Baylor rolled over 600 yds and scored 41 pts. Keep in mind, Oregon also scored 46 pts and rolled over 450 yds on MSU as well.

I never said tOSU didn't have a good offense. I said the majority of B1G teams have awful offenses, which cannot be disputed as half of the conference was ranked 90th through #115 in total and scoring offense last year.

No, its ignorant. Like I said, things like field position can have a major reflection on the score, oppositions defense, and game can have a major effect on the score. You are trying to use a stat that you have admitted has multiple outside influences to try to make a point, but I am cherry picking

yes. MSU's defense gave up over 5 yards a play in just 5 games that year. 3 of them in OOC.

They did... but Florida had no offense so there is that.. regardless still ended up 8th nationally in D.. we have always had a decent D finding an O is the issue...

yeah, but the SEC East might have been tied with the B1G as one of the worst offensive conferences in the country. That division was so bad on offense, that the entire division except Tennessee I believe ranked 90th to 125th in scoring and total offense. UF's defensive stats were vastly inflated due to playing in a division where the offenses were downright putrid.

And yards per play can't be skewed? Hell, you dial up 3-4 big plays throughout the course of the game, but then do just alright for the rest of the time, does that mean you "shredded" that defense?

Scoring defense isn't everything, especially when the pace of play is so much faster, which it is in the Big 12. Example Northwestern gave up 16 ppg, while OU gave up 20 ppg, but OU's defense was statistically more efficient.

So half = majority? The other half of the conference teams ranked in the top 60.
