I updated the roster with the recent announcements. Still a lot of holes, though. The 25-man is at 25, and the
At is before announcing who won between Ramirez and Gearin, so one of the bats listed will probably not make it (Hernandez?). Also, the 40 is currently at 42.

Ray Black, Ian Gardeck DFA'd, Smith 60 day DL. Travor Brown, Mac Williamson to 10-day DL

It'll be interesting to see if they get claimed.

So why did they DL Brown and Mac instead of just sending them down?

I think they did it as a little bonus to the guys. They both get 10 days of MLB pay instead of AAA pay.

So, if Crawford gets nicked up or just needs a day off, Nunez slides over to SS? Because Hill hasn't played SS at the big league level in more than a decade, and I can't see anyone else on the roster who could do it.

The Giants have had a fair amount of success doing things their way, but I have to say that I pretty much detest their over-fascination with older guys and how they end up treating the kids. Ok, Osich had a bad spring, but I'm not sure how you justify kicking Okert to Sacramento in favor of Gearrin. (And therefore leaving Blach of all people as the only lefty in the bullpen.) For that matter, they're placing a lot of faith in Ramirez's spring versus his 2016. Tomlinson gets displaced for Hill? You could go back years and find other examples and maybe one by one you could come up with an explanation for them but collectively it seems like an unnecessary reliance on and faith in guys with gray in their hair. (Which having a lot of it on my own head I can appreciate, but still...) Like I said, the Giants have had success with their approach, and what the hell do I know, I've never been a major league GM. But you spend time teaching the kids, training them, see them develop, if it were me I'd have enough faith in them to give them more shots than the Giants seem willing to. I have to wonder how this affects morale among them. They spend years in the minors, they work their asses off, and then they get shunted aside in favor of a graybeard who's just shown up.

Ok, I'll stop harrumphing.

My computer goes down over the weekend and I miss both Opening Day and the chance to rant about the Giants sending down Steven Okert? What the heck!?!?! Why in the world does a team needing quality left handed pitching send down the lefty who was lights out in spring training? How did that conversation go? "Steven, you did great! You did everything we asked and more. That means we have to send you down to AAA. Next time, work a little bit harder. We are a little bit disappointed in your numbers." :tsk:

I believe it to be a typo, but MLBTR has Black and Gardeck listed as "Released" on their DFA Tracker...

If only there was someone on the board who could explain the difference...

:hmm:
Completely unrelated...

The heat today makes me want to hang out in a pool. Anyone know any fun group games to play in a pool? Maybe something like Tag?

I've no time today, as I'm going to wear my Ralph Lauren gear to an equestrian sporting competition.
