Top 10 player with organizational seniority...

1) Matt Cain (1st round 2002)
2) Madison Bumgarner (1st round 2007)
3) Buster Posey (1st round 2008)
4) Brandon Crawford (4th round 2008)
5) Brandon Belt (5th round 2009)
6) Ryan Lollis (37th round 2009)
7) Jarrett Parker (2nd round 2010)
8) Jeff Arnold (26th round 2010)
9) Jake McCasland (38th round 2010)
10) Joe Panik (1st round 2011)

There are still a bunch of kids from the '11 draft in the system. The longest tenured non-home-grown player is Hunter Pence, who joined after the 2012 draft.

I believe it to be a typo, but MLBTR has Black and Gardeck listed as "Released" on their DFA Tracker...
Apparently, it wasn't a typo. According to their MiLB bio pages, they are both currently status = released.

With the depth the team currently has at SP, I wouldn't be shocked to see them walk away from Blackburn as well.

Giants place Posey on DL, designate Blackburn

Wow, that's a pretty drastic drop in value for a 24 year old starting pitcher. Blackburn's first start with Sacramento did not go well, but I didn't expect this.

Good for the Giants to put MVP on the concussion protocol early, rather than waiting for two weeks to see what's up.

Gardeck and Black have been re-signed to MiLB deals.

I fully expect the Giants will trade Blackburn.

I was a bit shocked that it was Blackburn as well. His value dropped quickly. Wasn't he just posting good numbers for a pitcher in the PCL last year?

The Upton deal is done, he's going to Extended Spring Training than Sacramento....

I mean, he's a pretty good defender in LF (should help Span cover some missed ground), and he can run into one. He's sorta like Pagan at this point really.

I'd rather see Mac get a chance when he's healthy.

I would like to continue to give Parker and Marrero PT until the end if the month. If neither have done anything yet, both are cut-able.

The Giants put Parker on the 10 day dl, recalled Okert from Sac and traded Blackburn to Texas for minor league infielder Frandy de la Rosa and cash considerations. The Rangers optioned Blackburn to Round Rock.

I understand the trade, but it is still sad to see an asset (as minor as it may have been) turned into next to nothing.

That is who I thought they picked up a organizational type middle infielder. I guess Juan Ciriaco's days are numbered.

Frandy De La Rosa. Signed a $700K bonus deal with the Cubs in 2012, so not a stud but no slouch at the time of his signing. Was projected to be a double digit homer/steals guy up the middle at the time (2012). He has since showed that he is still very raw. The power hasn't come around as expected (though it usually comes late), and he isn't really a smart base-stealer. Probably limited to 2B. He's still very young (21). Known to be extremely streaky.

Nice scouting report. Thanks.

But we just traded a near MLB ready journeyman-level SP for a kid who is REALLY raw and likely 4+ years away.

Basically giving Blackburn away for free.

Yeah, and what we REALLY need right now are more 2B. I understand that our outfield is super stacked right now, and there are no real open positions there, as we have a ton of potential all-stars patrolling the vast green expanses. Yup, add another 2B.

If this is all the Giants could get, then Blackburn's stock has really fallen far and hard. Color me puzzled on this, as on most things. :yo:

Strike-throwing innings eaters with minimal stuff are always needed but never craved. Good guys to have around, but the Giants have a number of them.

His stock may have been highest in 2012..... when he was in low A-ball, or in 2015..... when he had a 7 K/9 in AAA.

His value was never tremendous. Not a guy who could anchor a deal, not enough to sweeten a pot. TBH, his destiny was always going to be Chris Heston. I wish him well in Texas, where hopefully he can get a taste of the bigs close to his family.
