MEh....

I really wasnt too bullish on the SPURS going after CP3, but I accepted it and looked at the upsides.

But, at least with the Spurs, it seemed like a logical fit.
The Spurs had a ton of frontcourt depth, and needed someone in the backcourt desperately.

For the Rockets, I am not sure this makes them any better than the 2 or 3 seed in the West they already were beforehand. They were already backcourt driven.

Wow!!!

Great move by the Clippers.

Correction: Great move by Chris Paul.

He just played everyone. By telling the Clippers he was seriously considering Houston, he boxed them in to not letting him walk away for nothing. Then he opts in. Now he gets his money and gets to go to where he wanted to go AND the Rockets didn't have to gut their roster as much as they would have had to do if they signed him outright in free agency. Guess that's why they elected him Union President again. He outsmarted everyone in the room

Now, if there is another move to be made, it might make a lot more sense to me.

CARMELO - I just dont see D'Antoni wanting him. He already resigned before because he hated coaching Carmelo. And, there is also mutual hatred with James Dolan. I dont think the NY Knicks buy Melo out so he can go to a team that Dolan hates.

GEORGE - Maybe.....I guess it depends on how much Indiana values the former Hoosier Gordon in a trade.

But, other than 2nd deals, this trade essentially makes Houston a 53-57 win team not good enough to beat GS.

Rockets next move should not be PG13, imo...it should be Paul Millsap. He'd be a perfect fit for the D'Antoni offense and a major upgrade. If they could offer the Hawks a sign and trade including Ryan Anderson that would be ideal.

Not with all the money they've committed Ryan Anderson.

Sign and trade would be the easiest way to make way for the new deal, but there are other options to try to move contracts and get someone to take Anderson. He's not a really toxic contract. He's not worth the money, but he's worth at least 70% based on the going rate of free agents these days. If JJ Redick is looking to commant 18M a year, or if Allen Crabbe can get 18M a year, you'll have plenty of people looking to add someone of his quality. It would have to be a 3 way deal likely if a sign and trade with Millsap were to happen.

I'm shocked. Harden was a borderline MVP playing the pg position. I think the last thing that team needed was a pg. Grab a PF, C, SF, or heck even a SG before a pg. I don't think this makes Houston much better. They better get another big time player. How's their cap look?

As for Paul, I'll bet deandre Jordan feels betrayed after the shit Paul and BG pulled to keep him from signing with the mavs.

Good point on DJ. He should be very upset right now.

Sure. Paul made a smart move.

I fail to see how this helps the Rockets appreciably. They gave up two quality assets that they wouldn't have needed to pay for if they didn't sign and trade.

Harden is pretty versatile. And I think it was more important to get a play maker that can create space for Harden.

So the Rockets are destined to be a 2-3 seed that loses to the first good team in the playoffs they face?

This is a great addition for Houston. But how is this trade better for them than just waiting to sign him in free agency?? If they were sure they'd get him anyway that is.

They didn't have the cash to sign him outright...

5 of the 7 players basically never played. They just dumped salary.

Wiliams $7 mil, Beverly $5.53 mil, Dekker 1.72 mil, Harrell 1.47 mil, Quarterman 1.31 mil, Liggins 1.57 mil, Kelly 1.57 mil

Paul is getting paid $26.08 mil

So they basically add $6 mil to their cap and lose Lou and Beverly. They just have to replace a lot of depth.

So their cap will be around $101 mil. So they have around $18 to hit luxury tax if I am correct

I'm intrigued to see how it works. I just think facilitating is a huge strength of harden's game and paying some one else 40 million a year to take over that part of the game is not a wise way to spend money. I just don't see Harden playing to the best of his abilities without the ball constantly in his hands.

5? Harrell and Dekker were a part of their rotation in the regular season.
