Pretty much those two, unless you want to include things like lead the league in wins/ERA/strikeouts

Or:

13. Win MVP? (Verlander did)
14. Win Manager of the Year?
15. Win a WS as manager?
16. Bang Tito's daughter?

Droit du seigneur? I'm sure even Tito would be a proud father at that moment.

I think thats why Tito hates him so much already.

I think getting 200 K's in a season would be up there and he's certainly on track.

17. Win a game wherein his team gets shut out.

That's about it, though.

In today's world of pitching ..... I'd like to see him win 20 games .... not an easy feat any longer ... even for an elite pitcher ...

Interesting thing about the 20 win season. That standard gained popularity when there were four man rotations. Thus, each pitcher would get about 40 starts a year if he stayed healthy. A 20 win season was essentially winning half of your starts.

Now, pitchers get approximately 32 starts. So, the equivalent elite standard is 16 wins. Very few pitchers win that many games in a year.

16 is the new 20
12 is the new 15....that's the standard I look at for a good year -- to the extent that wins and losses have any value at all in evaluating a pitcher.

Edit: last year, 17 pitchers in all of baseball won 16 games or more. 57 won 12 or more. Basically, if you win 12, you're a #2 pitcher on an average team, 14 wins makes you an ace.

Giants wins last year:
Tron, Freak, Bum .....13 wins
Horse ..... 12 wins

Zeet's last full season (2010) was 9 wins.

I wonder if pitch counts reduce win totals as well?

I do remember Denny McClain when he was going for 30 wins in 1968. I was old enough
(22) to appreciate the feat. It seems to reflect what Tzill mentioned. McLain pitched in 41 games that year (the next year too). He actually got decisions in 37 of them (31-6). That's getting a decision in 90% of his starts. Pretty remarkable itself. From what I see from the late 60's and early 70's this was a little better than the norm. He actually won 75% of his starts. Most SP from that era were considered pretty good if they were around 50%.
