I was just telling SpringStein... Washington torched Florida late in the year with big plays.

Wasn’t expected to get drafted, so I don’t have much to post on him. But likely drafted as a punt returner more than a WR.

Not going to lie if we took a WR here I REALLY wanted Bo Melton... But with no return man on our roster (Melton can return) then picking strictly the best return man makes sense to me...

I have a feeling we compared Washington to Calvin Austin knowing we could get Washington later then Austin... and liking him well enough that we didn't want to wait much longer to get him.

3 TD returns on punts/kicks last year. Sounds good!

I don't like it because...

1) could have had him as an UDFA or 7th rounder
2) should have drafted McCollum at 152 and Turner-Yell at 162
3) followed by trading up for a guy that we probably didn't have to trade up for

...so all of my irritation with the 5th round falls on this guy now.

Do you hate it more because we landed another speed guy in UDFA.

the OT from NDSU went a few picks later
denver will never draft an OT yet sign 3-4 WRs
was the OT a top 30 visit guy? could be wrong
who does Washington replace Hinton ?

feel odd to me at that spot

He replaces Deantae Spencer.

Is this the guy that went sideways more than straight and made bad decisions fielding punts. Or the guy that made fans scream like he scored a touchdown if he returned punt 15 yds. I miss him already

Does Hinton get cut then? Or Seth Williams? I don’t see us carrying 7 WR’s on the roster.
Spencer isn't on the roster - meaning the Broncos need a return man. Can Hinton or Williams do the return work? Guys get hurt - guys get stashed on the PS - just like any year. And just like any year the draftee might not make the team.

I think it is important to not think of it as in who is not going to make the roster because of a draft pick, but bring on the best players you can and let them compete for a spot on the roster. If you are going to have to cut talented players going into cut down day, trade them for a player or pick.

worst case is Williams gets cut or PS and does not provide any value

Paton said they were not going to reach for a Olineman because they are afraid he will be cut meaning they are looking again next year which they will be anyways

adding 4 drafted or CFA Wrs today

odd

maybe someone is getting traded

I know Spencer isn’t on the roster but as of right now we have Sutton, Patrick, Jeudy, Hamler, Hinton, Williams, and Washington as the main guys(not counting any of the Practice squad or undrafted guys. That’s 7 people just right there and I don’t see all 7 making it.

according to paton and hackett
williams will get the chance to be the returner

he’s a ST pick

you never know if he can catch the ball with 11 full grown men bearing down

Half of Williams' highlight films are of him making return TDs and great catches against Florida and other SEC teams. In fact, the Williams highlight films show Williams busting the jet sweep - the other the shoulder diving catch - taking the ball out of the backfield and lining up in the slot. All things the Broncos tried with Spencer and failed.

I don't like this way of thinking. #1 especially.

According to who could we have had him as an UDFA? The other 31 team and his agent?

If you like someone well enough you go get him. If we feel Washington is a difference maker, dynamic return man playmaker you go get him. You don't risk the thought of waiting until Round 7 or as an UDFA... If you like him well enough on day 3 you go get that guy. The chances when you are sitting in Round 5 loving on a player worried about taking him too early is the liklihood that at least 1 if not more then 1 of the other 31 teams are thinking/deciding the same thing. Round 5 is not too early for a player you "LOVE" and feel can help your team right away.... Allen Iverson voice "we talking about round 5 here, not round 1, round 2, round 3, we talking about Round 5"... I have no issues with this. Why would you bank on signing someone you really want as an UDFA having no clue what other teams are calling for him? If you love him you get him!

I am excited about this pick. Yeah, he may not give us much at WR (He could though) but most likely is purely a return man... But we are talking about Round 5. If you see a player that fills an important role.. Go get him... Why go out and get an 8th CB or 17th LB just to take a "different" position and risk losing a guy you love?
