I don't think Hexy has the go ahead from Snyder. Waiting to see who else is out there before the ax.

In the meantime Vinny may retire which could save us some cap space.

I really would hope that Lecavalier isn't done at the age of just turning 35 in five days. There are guys all across the Nhl at his skill level that are still lighting it up and many are actually older.

The Sedin twins turn 35 this year. Zetterberg turns 35 this year. Datsyuk is 37 this summer. Thornton is 36 this summer. Ribeiro is 35. Hossa is 36. Iginla is 38 this summer. Marleau is 35. Tanguay is 35. St. Louis is turning 40 this summer. Streit is 37. Markov is 36. Jagr is 43.

These guys were all in the top 100 in scoring. Many of them the top 50 or 60. Some the top 10.

I don't know if he'll make you completely forget about his salary, but I think he can turn it around next season under the right circumstances.

Vinny does not have a spot in this line up and is eating valuable cap space. Retirement is the only way he comes off the books. If he was scoring like the guys you mentioned we would not be having this discussion.

I'm saying that as long as he's healthy and we're using him appropriately, there's no reason why he shouldn't be producing.

agreed. he's probably overpaid for what production he will produce, but he wouldn't be nearly the burden he was this year if he was deployed properly. the guy is a future hall of famer, and 34 going on 35 is not too old to produce in this league.

asking him to score 20-30 goals playing with chris vandevelde and zac rinaldo is a fool's errand. asking anyone to score 20-30 goals playing with them, is a fool's errand.

Put him on the top power play unit and give him a couple wingers that can play. He will produce.

Berube needs to go! His approach just isn't going to get it for the current roster.

If Vinny gets put on the top PP unit then who would he replace from the 5th best PP in the league?

honestly, I think he'd light it up in Schenn's spot in the slot-ish. he's got a wicked shot, and you don't have to move a ton in that role on the PP. I was a little disappointed he was never really tried there. That position on this PP seems tailor made for vinny.

Then we would be saying the same thing about Schenn as we are saying about Vinny. Without the PP Schenn would lose a ton of points and playing time and will not produce to his potential.

Ok boys.. Back on topic. Berube got the axe. Who do you want? Do you think Hexy will be in a rush to sign a new coach or wait to see how everything settles? I heard Murray wants to coach the NHL again. However, my gut thinks Hextall wants him to continue dEveloping the younger guys in the minors. Thoughts?

I say he waits he doesn't really seem to rush moves as evident of none of the young kids coming up this season and his patience even with Berube at yesterday's meeting.

Exactly what I would've said. Hartnell was lethal from that area. Schenn, not so much.

And Hextall won't rush this. I love how he came right out and said this was a playoff team on paper and I completely agree with him. That puts Berube directly at fault for not directing them to the playoffs.

I think Hextall is taking his time to find a coach who fits the present roster as well as additions and subtractions that may occur. I am sure this will include a guy who is on board with Hextall's philosophy. I wonder if Hextall takes a look at a guy like Rod Brind'Amour in Carolina. Just saying.

No first time head coaches imo

They need someone who has been in the wars to get this team to the next level - two of the last three coaches were first timers and it didn't end so well(although Lavi didn't end so well either but he had more success than the other two)
