It isn't just the SEC, its the ACC also. It seems to be a southern thing.

I'm pretty sure we ask for the open date. The real truth is - we only do it because the Iron Bowl is considered the most important game on the schedule. We want to be fresh and don't want to be banged up before the biggest game of the regular season.

And that's not going to change.

Auburn somehow managed to get a G5 team to come last year. But in general, everyone is playing conference games and it's near impossible.
