Houston Texans Sports Medicine Staff Named Athletic Traning Staff of the Year
HOUSTON – The Houston Texans Sports Medicine Staff has been selected as the Athletic Training Staff of the Year by the Pro Football Athletic Trainers Society. Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer Geoff Kaplan, Coordinator of Rehabilitation/Assistant Athletic Trainer Roland Ramirez and Assistant Athletic Trainer A.J. Van Valkenburgh will be recognized for their distinguished service to their club, community and athletic training profession at the Ed Block Courage Award banquet in Baltimore, Md. on March 17, 2014.

“It is a great honor to be named the Athletic Training Staff of the Year,” Kaplan said. “The fact that my staff has been recognized as the top athletic training staff in the NFL, and the award was voted on by our peers makes it even more special.”

The current Texans Sports Medicine staff has been working together for four seasons. Kaplan is in his fifth season with the Texans and his 21st overall in the NFL, while Ramirez is in his sixth season with the team and ninth overall in the NFL, and Van Valkenburgh is in his fourth season in the NFL with all four years being a member of the Texans.

The Texans Sports Medicine staff emphasizes scientific research, education, cutting-edge medicine and a relentless commitment to giving the best health care possible to the players. It requires an aggressive, innovative, proactive approach and a readiness to push sports medicine to the limit all while maintaining the trust of their patients.

“We are fortunate to have a cohesive sports medicine staff, including our physicians, that place such a high value on healthcare,” Ramirez said. “We are also very grateful to be supported by a first-class organization that provides us with the resources and creates an environment for us to serve our team with the best care possible.”

“We appreciate the recognition and we are privileged to represent PFATS and the Houston Texans at the Ed Block Courage Award banquet,” Van Valkenburgh added.

YAY! A participation trophy!
