See, what happened was, they actually talked and their convo with Kobe was so profound it left them all speechless. Yeah! That's it!

 Hibbert looked like he was gonna either fall over or just run off the stage.

typical Kobe

why is anyone surprised by this?

the guy is who he is and he isn't going to change for anyone- not Shaq, not Phil and certainly not for 3 guys joining the team for one season before he retires/leaves the Lakers.

Typical. I supposed Kobe feels he doesn't have to do the Lakers bidding for them anymore and maybe that's a good thing but all three sort of did the dodgeroo the best they could in each of their own way when the question or topic was raised. Fairly interesting.

Going to change the topic now before this shit ends up on TMZ or Oprah, discussing players' feelings...

Anyone else think the #2 jersey needs to be retired in the future in honour of D-Fish?

I'm sure Kobe will talk with them at some point before training camp. If not, who cares. I'm sure the media will blow it out of proportion. Maybe Kobe is busy with his life and family and such.

The Lakers only retire the jerseys of hall of famers. D-Fish won't be a hall of famer. He's a very important player in the history of the team though.

I agree with the Lakers stance of only retiring the numbers of HOF'ers. But Lakers history is full of non-HOF guys who played for the Lakers for several years and were very important to their history.

I'd love for them to find a way to honor guys like D-Fish, Rambis, Byron Scott, Norm Nixon, Happy Hairston, etc. Maybe have a Lakers Wall of Fame or Distinguished Service plaques or something. Guys like that, who won't be in the Hall of Fame, but without whom, the Lakers would probably have fewer titles. Maybe even include some "fan favorite" players like Eddie Jones, who fans really loved, but weren't part of any titles.

Can't retire all the numbers, need some available for current players to wear lol.

How will they handle retiring Kobe's number(s)? Will they do both?

My guess would be that they will either give him a choice or just retire 24 because it's the number he is now known for.

I guess it should be his call. His prime years were with #8 IMO.

Yeah, I agree it should be his call. He changed the number around 2006 or 2007, so it splits his prime years almost down the middle.

He won 3 titles wearing #8, but the general opinion of most is that he was Robin to Shaq's Batman for those titles.

He won 2 titles wearing #24, but was the undisputed team leader at that point.

Definitely going to be interesting to see which number ends up retired.

I expect that regardless of which number is officially retired, the other will be unofficially retired as I doubt we see any future Lakers ever wear it.

Might be a fun poll thread. Just can't decide whether or not to put it here on the Lakers board or on the main board.

That would work but only on the condition that it will be easy enough for the Clippers to block off the wall when they have a "home" game

Just combine the 2 numbers and retire that number with Kobe's name on it...

I don't think there was anyone of significance who wore #32 on the Lakers...
